Honestly if you asked me if I was going to go through recruitment when I first got to college I probably would have laughed in your face for even thinking about it. Being a girl that grew up in a small town and who had all guy best friends, I never thought sorority life would fit me. Little did I know I would soon find myself calling over 90 girls my sisters for life.
When I first got to campus I could see the big Greek letters hanging outside the girls dormitory building. Instantly I was curious to find out exactly what these women were like and compare them to all the movies I had seen. Finally, after I was all settled in, I began to explore. I soon found myself outside the sorority dorm halls. The designs on the doors were eye catching and there was almost constant noise and laughter coming from each of them. I was more than a little apprehensive but right then and there just feet away from the women I wanted to know about, I decided to rush.
During recruitment my nerves were high and I was extremely confused. I was beginning to fall in love with one particular group of women. My first thought was "What if they don't want me?" My second thought was totally different, an example of how conflicted I was, "Do I truly want them?" I couldn't seem to figure out if the Greek life was really for me but at the same time I was worried that the Greek life wouldn't want me. Finally, I asked my recruitment counselor ( who I prayed was in the organization I wanted) what to do and she told me this "Follow your heart everywhere and trust those that you are most comfortable around, then decide." So, I did just that and became a member of Sigma Sigma Sigma, just like she is.
Now I have more friends than I know what to do with. I have connections with people all over campus simply from going to an organization I wasn't too sure about joining in the first place. I have a Big, a Sib and a Little who I would do anything for and sisters who are more beautiful and special than they realize. I've done so many cool things and have gone on so many new adventures with them and because of them and I am eternally grateful. My letters make me more proud than most things in my life and I am always honored to wear them. If anyone ever asks me I always tell them to go greek because I've made friends and memories that last a lifetime and who could ask for anything more? My college experience is all the better because of it.
