We're almost halfway through February and winter has kicked into full swing. Snowstorms and frigid winds are our worst nightmare when it comes to trying to get to class. Going to the gym is even harder because not only do you have to work out, but you also have to brave the arctic tundra just to get there. All this cold weather makes us ask one simple question: "Summer, where you at?!"
To get you through these next couple months of hiding in a fort of blankets before the warm sun and beach weather grace us, enjoy this list of yearly songs of the summer so you can reminisce on all your memories of summer's past. Let's take it back 10 years ago to the summer of 2006.
2006: Nelly Furtado - "Promiscuous"
Pretty much one of the best dance throwbacks of all time. You've probably heard it at just about any party you've been to. Back when this song came out, we were pretty young and this song was pretty sleazy for us. But that didn't stop us from shakin' it through summer 2006 with it blasting everywhere we went.
2007: Gym Class Heroes - "Cupid's Chokehold"
GCH's big break song was the hit of summer 2007. Whether you actually had a significant other or not, you'd sing this one with all your might with your head sticking out of your car's sun roof that summer.
2008: We The Kings - "Check Yes Juliet"
If you aren't into punk, rock, or punk-rock, this song was still definitely on your iPod shuffle in the summer of 2008. It was the first outlet for us to use to let out all that tween angst. And it was amazing.
2009: The Black Eyed Peas - "I Gotta Feeling"
Thinking back on happy songs that remind me of summer, this one sticks out almost right away. Summer 2009 was filled with so many great memories and if you compiled all the pictures from those two months, this song would surely play in the background.
2010: Katy Perry - "California Gurls" ft. Snoop Dogg
One of the first songs you might think of when you think about going to the beach and relaxing under the sun. This song had the perfect vibes for a summer of fun. No matter what coast you were living on, Katy brought you the fire in 2010.
2011: LMFAO - "Party Rock Anthem"
I still remember the rush of everyone to see who could learn how to shuffle first, cause it was a dance most of us weren't familiar with. Even though they are 100% irrelevant to us now, we've gotta thank LMFAO for turning our summer of 2011 into the dance party of the century.
2012: Carly Rae Jepsen - "Call Me Maybe"
This song was not just a hit, it was a phenomenon. The first time you heard it you were like, "Wow. This song is pretty catchy." The second time you heard it you were like, "Okay, this song is too simple for it to be this good." Then the third, fourth, and seven-hundredth times were all pretty much the same: you danced and sang your brains out all the way through summer 2012. I just have one question: Where's the new hit single, Carly Rae?!
2013: Zedd - "Clarity"
This one was no contest. I didn't even have to consider any other options for summer 2013. Zedd takes the cake. He takes the whole bakery, too. Clarity is fire and it always will be.
2014: Tiesto - "Wasted"
This song just brings me back to partying it up on the beach and having an unforgettable summer with my high school friends. When the song was over, you'd play it again, and again, and again. A true staple to our summer of 2014.
2015: Major Lazer & DJ Snake - "Lean On" ft. MØ
Summer 2015 was one of the best summers of my life, and hearing this song is like standing under a waterfall of happiness and memories. I think I'm gonna go listen to it now and dream about driving around with the windows down and feeling the sun hit my face.
Seriously summer, WHERE ARE YOU?!
