Dear Unexpected Best Friend

I never thought you would still be in my life

Dear unexpected best friend,

We used to be really good friends in grade school. I went to your house every weekend, we ate mint chocolate chip ice cream, played on your trampoline, and went to each other’s cheer and swim practices. You pushed me to do new things, like watch my first PG13 movie, mean girls, and ride the big roller coasters at Six Flags. I always had so much fun with you, but then you left. You moved to a different school, and you lived in a different town.

We didn’t talk for 6 years. I only saw pictures you posted on Instagram, so I didn’t know what was going on in your life. I also had my own friends I went to high school with, so I didn’t think of you much. You were just another girl who went to my grade school that I used to be friends with.

During my junior year, I was sitting at my usual lunch table, and I got a random notification on Twitter. You DMed me asking if I liked my high school because you hated yours and wanted to transfer.. Later on, you decided to switch for your Senior year. I honestly thought it was kind of weird because why would someone want to switch to a brand new school for their last year of high school.

It was really hard for you at first, and I still wasn’t sure how I felt about you since I hadn’t talked to you in such a long time. My friends didn’t accept you right away, and I always felt like I was stuck in the middle of trying to include you and trying to get them to give you a chance.

Eventually, all of the drama that was going on stopped, and I finally felt closer to you. There weren’t a ton of people in my school who were my true friends, but you were always one of them. I started to realize that everything was just like when we were younger. We always had fun when we hung out, you were always honest, and you always made me laugh.

I never thought we would be friends again, but I'm so glad we are. Even though you are 1,377 miles away, I still talk to you every single day, and I feel closer to you than some of the people who go to the same school as me now.

I know I can count on you to say dumb things that make me laugh, get ice cream with me, go Black Friday shopping, and eat fries with ranch with me. You are the most unexpected friend I’ve ever had, but i’m so thankful for you.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
