To Every New Sorority Sister, Welcome Home
Macarena Calzado

Dear New Sorority Members,

Welcome home. You have just embarked on one of the best journeys of your life. I'm sure you are confused and have so many questions. Don't worry. Any and all of your questions will be answered soon. You will get a temporary big, and she will help you learn the ropes of the sorority life until you get yourself a real big.

For now, look around. These are all your new sisters. The people you will most likely live with next year. They will be there for you in the good times and the bad. When you need a shoulder to lean on, you know you will be able to count on a sister. The new member period may be overwhelming at times, but know that you and the rest of your pledge class sisters will be going through it together. Get ready to meet some of your new best friends in your pledge class! It's amazing how many different kinds of people you will meet when you join a sorority!

Soon you will also get a Big. Know that she already loves you so much and might not even know you. As an older sister, I can safely say that the rest of my sisters and I have been waiting all year to welcome you into our fams. Get ready for all the shenanigans and fun times to come ahead! You are about to find the fam that you never knew you needed and be spoiled beyond measure. If you thought you had enough t-shirts now, just get ready for Big-Little reveal week. You will have enough t-shirts to wear one every day for the next year and never need to do laundry.

If you got a bid to the one sorority you did not want as much as the rest, don't drop right away. Give it a chance. You never know who you will find. Maybe you'll find your newest best friend or your future bridesmaid/maid of honor. You won't know until you try it. Everyone will be nervous and shy at first, but soon you will all break out of your bubbles. That is when your world will change forever. I cannot imagine my life without my sorority sisters, and soon you won't be able to either.

I am so excited for all of you. You are all going to be amazing new members of this sorority. You now represent much more than just yourself when you are at bars, parties, and even classes. You represent your entire sorority, and that is a huge honor. I am so looking forward to getting to know each and every one of you. I know you will all make our founders proud!

Lots of love,

An Older Sister

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Being Invisible The Best Super Power

The best superpower ever? Being invisible of course. Imagine just being able to go from seen to unseen on a dime. Who wouldn't want to have the opportunity to be invisible? Superman and Batman have nothing on being invisible with their superhero abilities. Here are some things that you could do while being invisible, because being invisible can benefit your social life too.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
