Dear (soon-to-be) Little,
Dez Ruiz

Dear Little,

To say that I'm excited to welcome you home is a huge understatement. In fact, I'm spending most of this month preparing to spoil you with all of your favorites and all the sorority crafts. Even though I don't officially know who you are yet, I already love you with all of my heart. I can't promise you that our relationship will always be easy, but I can promise you the following things.

I promise to always make time for you.

I understand that as college students, we both have crazy schedules and things we need to get done. I do not expect you to constantly be with me, or text 24/7. However, I promise that despite my schedule, I will always make you a priority. Regardless of how many tests I have, or events I must attend, I will always make sure to squeeze in some big little time.

I promise to be honest with you.

Whether you need life advice, or help deciding which outfit to wear, I always tell you the truth. Now, as a complete disclaimer, I can't promise you that it'll always be what you want to hear, but it will always be what you need to hear. I can be pretty blunt, so just remember that I'm always acting with your best intentions in mind.

I promise to be your biggest cheerleader.

In fact, you know Regina George's mom? Yeah, I'm ready to be the embarassing mom who shouts at the top of her lungs from the crowd. Whether you have a play coming up, an event you're hosting, or you're just trying to pass your math class, just know that I will always be cheering you on from the sidelines. Does this mean you're going to be embarassed sometimes? Probably.

I promise to be a person you want to look up to.

As much as I wish as I had my life completely together, I'm still constantly learning how to be a better person. Despite the mistakes I may make, just know that I will always try to be the person you're proud of. I want to be an example for you of what it means to be a sorority woman.

I promise to be a constant reminder of wonderful our sisterhood is.

Above all, I want to make sure that you never doubt our sisterhood and the genuine love that we have for one another. If you need help learning about our organization's history, or have questions about what our sorority stands for, I will always be a resource to you.

I promise to take all of the pictures with you.

Actually, you should know that I'm obsessed with social media, so I will always be more than happy to take pictures with you so I can show you off to the rest of the world.

I promise to always be there for you.

It doesn't matter if it's 3:12AM, or 4PM, if you need something call me. Unfortunately, I won't be able to protect you from everything in this world, whether it's boys who don't realize what they're missing out on, or unpredictable life situations, but I will always be a should you can cry on or someone who binge eat ice cream with.

I'm impatiently waiting until the day I can officially call you mine, but until then, just remember that your big loves you lots. ❤️

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
