Society,

Most people nowadays would be welcoming to the idea of self-expression but then turn around to dis it behind closed doors.

What kind of teacher are you? Young women suffer every day due to esteem issues and you see it as gum on the sidewalk and you crush it with your heavy, ugly foot, and it gets stuck and then scraped off and thrown away.

"Self-expression" has turned into Birkenstocks and ray-bans, cold shoulder tops and Micheal Kors. If it isn't ''in style", girls won't touch it, even if they like it. If it won't have the general male population swooning is it worth their money? Who do you have to impress, is it an employer? A lawyer? Or is it yourself? Too often girls will hide behind their clothes and hair due to fear of rejection but their brains are conditioned to be like this.

Social standards say that girls should be pretty and wear pretty things otherwise, they're not worth batting an eyelash at. If her clothes aren't trendy and she can't give you the latest gossip then she might as well be mute.

Society, you have taught her that she is worthless without a major label designer holding her hand.

And you tell the ones who don't need a hand to hold that they will never be good enough or amount to anything but what are you? You raise women to envy dolls but fail to mention that dolls and reality have nothing in common.

Sure, women have rights, freedoms, and a voice but it does not eradicate the "ladylike" standard. Society, you've taught women that their only option of being a woman is to be born one. And when a male is ready to become a woman "he" is shunned because a few things got mixed up in utero and she was born with a penis.

Society, your skull is thicker than dried concrete.

It is not a hard concept. But you act like the answer to the issue is down the rabbit hole, through the labyrinth, across the universe, and into the next dimension. It is right under your nose, it has been the whole time. Acceptance, for people who are different, for girls who want to wear dresses that are "so last year", for boys who want to be girls and vice versa. You act like the solution is a basketball net and you are the floor. Truth is, you are the basketball, the rest of humanity is the floor, you pound it with every dribble. sometimes you make it into the net but it is such a short-lived victory because the net has a hole in the bottom and you fall right back out, crushing hopes and dreams once again.

Society, you smell like the dirty gym socks left by the middle school kid who is bullied so frequently that they decide living isn't the right path for them. Society, the community will try to forget but you rub it in and it sticks, just like that gum on the bottom of your shoe.

Sincerely,

The ones who didn't buy tickets to your basketball game.

Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
