To the Graduated Seniors- Good Luck, and Thank You

If you are a senior who just graduated college, please continue reading.

Dear New Adult,

Congratulations on graduating. There is no stopping you now and you can only go up from here.

Good luck on each job interview you go on. It’s going to be a long and hard process, but I have faith in you that you will get a job.

Do not compare yourself to those who graduated with a job, or who have already gotten a job. Everything happens for a reason and you will find somewhere where you will fit in and succeed. You did not spend 4 years away from home and thousands of dollars to not end up anywhere.

You have paved the way for the underclassman and we will continue to look up to you and follow in your footsteps Thank you for everything. Thank you for helping us with the assignments we were up past 1:00 in the morning doing. Thank you for always being there no matter what questions we had to ask you.

It's going to be weird going back in the fall and not spending every waking minute by your side whether it is walking to class, eating lunch in your apartment, or spending the night after going to the local bar.

Thank you for showing us the ropes on campus where all the jobs are- the ones we would want to work at. Thank you for all of your knowledge, wisdom, and experience. Thank you for showing us how to have fun and not get caught.

Thank you for showing us how to be successful without being stressed.

The knowledge we have gained from you is amazing and we cannot wait to put it to use in the fall. We hope to follow in your footsteps and do bigger and better things ourselves.

Thank you for being a listening ear no matter what we had to vent about. Thank you for being an inspiration and a role model throughout the years.

If you have done this much for us, imagine how much you can do for other people when you get a job. I cannot wait to hear all about your working days and continue to listen to your experience and continue looking up to you. Thank you for always motivating us when we felt we were in over our heads. Thank you for not letting us give up. Now it is our turn to motivate you and watch you succeed in the real world. You do not understand the impact you have had on underclassman. You are all role models whether you realize it or not.

Sincerely,

An undergrad whom can never repay you

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
