Dear Mr. President (Elect)

This is "yuge."

Dear Mr. President (Elect),

I'm going to be honest, I was surprised as hell to learn that you won. But then again, I was surprised as hell to learn that you were even running.

You have consistently surprised me over and over again throughout the course of this election. I will not go into details -- you know all of the instances I'm referring to. Today has been a long day for everyone. I'm very tired, I've been reading the backlash of your win for far too long, and I don't think that we should continue to focus on the past.

Today, I want to talk to you about the future.

Like I said, everything you do comes as a huge ("yuge") shock to me. You have shared the spotlight with Clinton for a very long time, and today a surprising realization came to me: you guys had so much power.

Between the two of you, it was a massive, unholy amount of power. You both found your way into so many people's minds, you both became household names. You generated tons and tons of speech -- not too mention tons of voters. This may be the most involved many Americans have ever been in politics.

Today, Mr. President Elect, you alone stand in the public eye. You are the one we are awaiting action from. You've got the American public hanging on to everything you do. That is wild.

Today I ask that you take a few moments away from the cheers and the hate, and the flashing bulbs, and the interviews, and all of the people that will be following you for the next few years. I ask that you take these moments and consider the power you wield. You are the new face of our nation. You can make the tiniest of changes, but the ripples will be...yuge.

Today I ask that you use your newfound power for goodness. I ask that you use it to turn over a new leaf. To stop the infectious spread of hate and intolerance that has taken over this country. I ask that you take a long hard look at the things you've said, and done, and vow to make President Trump a different, better man than Candidate Trump. I ask that you realize how your actions will affect every man, woman, and child in this nation.

Today I ask that you make yourself the best self you can be with each new day. I didn't elect you, but I am done raving about how unfair life is. I am done with my heart pounding in fury every time I read someone else's (usually ridiculous) opinion. Your victory makes me want to be a better woman. A stronger woman. A kinder woman. A healthier woman. Because I want to lead my peers by example. I want this country to be unified, because we have spent far too long at each other's throats.

I want you to be stronger, kinder, and healthier. You are the example now. Set a good one.

Congrats,

Kasey

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
