Dear People Of America

Take your light and eradicate the dark.

Dear People Of America
Frank Köhntopp

Dear People of America,

There always had to be one winner. In every game, sport and competition, there will always be one winner. It is the same with the Presidential Race. A winner would succeed and the loser will have to try again next near. So that's what we're left with. There's no reason to argue, fight or complain. There is nothing we can do. It is time to buckle down and really start to let it sink in. We all knew by the time we awoke in the morning after election night, one side of all of us would be celebrating a victory, the other would hang our heads in defeat. For those celebrating, congratulations, your candidate won one of the highest and most respected positions, but do not be too excited, not everyone agrees with you, and now your candidate has to show the world who he really is. To those who lost, do not fight or argue, there’s nothing that can be done, but instead, focus your energy to something else. You candidate fought the best she could, but there will always be a loser.

Instead of arguing and fighting with each other, we should be helping each other, no matter our political lines. We need to help each other more than ever. The country is divided and will only get worse if we keep on this path of hatred for each other. It may seem like peace in this country will never be achieved, and it may truly never happen, but do not let that discourage you. There is so much this world, country, offers, and there's so much you as a single person can do. Yes it is a daunting task, but only your own self doubt blocks your path. Do not fear this task, instead embrace the challenge, should you accept.

This challenge will not only bring peace and well being to those you help, but to yourself as well. There is so much you can do for this world, or even just your small town. Start where you can. On your road, in your neighborhood, town, city. There is no task too small. A kind word to a stressed employee, and smile to the janitor, or a friendly hello to the person who steps into the elevator on the next floor. A note left on a coworkers desk, compliments to someone you met in line, leave a note somewhere to brighten a stranger's day. These are all small task that you can do easily. Start a movement. Get people together, host a food drive, collect coats, anything. Do not focus on the world’s hatred, instead, focus on the love and peace you can help create. Join a volunteer group, do anything that helps this world.

These next four years will be an interesting ride. Do not go into this year with hatred and disdain in your heart. Instead, go into it with a curiosity for the unknown. Do not fear the new year, instead, fear that this world will never piece itself back together. Fear the hatred that knocks at our doors, and barges inside and stays for a while. Fear the hatred that people show each other, the self-centered people who push themselves into the forefront of the media. Fear the way people do not help others. Then, take that fear, and replace it with your own light. Brighten the world, even if it's only a miniscule portion. Do not let the dark abyss of hate overtake this world. Take your light and eradicate the dark.

Sincerely,

KH.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
