"Sometimes you meet someone, and it's so clear that the two of you, on some level belong together. As lovers, or as friends, or as family, or as something entirely different. You just work." -Unknown
Dear New Best Friend,
When I got college, I wondered how I would adjust to making to new friends. I stayed up late worrying that the people I’ve loved since kindergarten wouldn’t be around anymore. My best friends from home were the people who truly knew me best, all my favorite things, years of jokes and millions of memories. How could I ever replace all of that? Did I even want to? Making new friends is not always easy; it takes a few tries to find the people that understand you.
I learned that making new friends in college did not mean I would have to forget my friends from home. I didn’t have to look for “replacement” friends; no two people are the same anyway.
When I met you, it was an instant connection. Maybe we bonded over enjoying the same food when we met the first time at Maxi’s pizza, or maybe it was the color of our red hair, but I saw that best friend potential in you.
It’s not a feeling that can be easily explained, your aura mixed well with mine. And we were not wrong to try and pursue the friendship we felt could become.
It seemed like being strangers would be easier than trying to create a friendship, but instantly, we discovered we had the same sense of humor. Even though its only been half a year, it feels like we’ve been friends forever, and that’s how I know its going to last us a lifetime.
Thank you for being brave with me.
Before we met, I was nervous about coming back for a second year at school. Things didn’t end well my first year. I felt a little lost. I’m glad we got to try new things together.
Thank you for listening.
and for helping me find my way. We are always there for each other, whether it be 3am or 1pm, I know I can count on you. We are constantly talking 24/7, in all different forms: text, facetime, snapchat or in person. Its always great to have someone cheering you on or giving you advice, no matter what the decision be. And stopping each other from doing something stupid.
Thank you for the adventures.
I must admit, we have done some crazy things together, our parents might not be proud of. We also have done some adult things that would make them happy as well. We have also done everything in between, from having a blast staying in and relaxing to traveling far or around Philly.
Thank you for making memories.
We could on for hours of all the fun times we have had together. We can also calmly talk about the bad times, and discuss how to fix them and prevent it from happening the future. We have so many memories to make and so much more to explore. I can’t wait to see what the world brings us. For only knowing each other for a short amount of time, it seems like we've been through it all together.
I love you so much, thank you for being my best friend. I am forever grateful for what our friendship has turned into this past semester.
Love,
Maxie
