An Open Letter To My Amazing Mother
Cailie Liles

Dear Mom, I love you.

I know that you love me too from the ways you remind me to put on my coat or to stay safe. You show me you love me with all of your selfless acts. I can't imagine the amount of love you have for me because I don't yet have a daughter, but I know it must be something fierce on behalf of the mama bear I see when someone comes close to hurting me.

Dear Mom, now that I’ve moved away, I know you miss me more than I realize. I haven’t figured out yet how you know when to ignore the phone when others call, but you don’t ignore it when I’m calling. I hope I inherit that gene that knows who is calling because I feel like that would come in handy one day. You’re the one person who cares the most about the little details of my life.

You always seem to brighten my day when I call you from far away. Trust me, when I’m away, I miss you. I miss you when I catch a cold or run a fever. I miss your comforting hugs. I miss my favorite meals when you aren't near; they never seem to taste the same. I even sometimes miss the "I told you so's."

Your example of a godly, hardworking woman makes me want to be like you when I grow up. I want to love others the way you do. You give up so much of your time to serve, and I want to be known for doing that too. I want to be known for being as kind and beautiful as my mom.

Dear Mom, when I’m home, I enjoy our long walks and long talks. I enjoy serving you by washing the dishes, and as you know well, it’s my least favorite chore. I enjoy your love for laughter. You’re so funny; I enjoy the practical jokes you play on my sister, bless her heart. I’m thankful that I got my sense of humor from you. Thank you for passing down your great tanning genes and big, pretty eyes. Thank you for always encouraging me. Thank you for proudly sharing my accomplishments to others. It really means a lot.

Thank you for loving me so unconditionally, and dear Mom, know that I love you too.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
