Dear Mom, | The Odyssey Online

Our relationship has developed a lot over the years. There was a time when I thought of you as nagging and annoying, moments when I thought I hated you and couldn't wait to get out of the house, until finally, I began to realize the value of your wisdom and experience and learned that it was better to have you as a best friend than an enemy. I also realized what a joy it is to have a mother who doubles as a best friend.

So, thank you. I do not believe I tell you that enough, but I want you to know how eternally grateful I am for you and for all of the sacrifices and things you did and still do for our family and me. Thank you for staying up late and cleaning the kitchen so that our days start off with a shiny sink and spotless counter. Thank you for waking up with us from elementary school until high school and making us breakfast to start our days off the right way. Thank you for the countless times you drove to school because we forgot a school project or form that was due. Thank you for taking care of us when we were home from school sick. Thank you for letting us stay home simply because we couldn't handle another day of school. Thank you for teaching us how to work hard and remain focused on the big picture.

Thank you for caring. Although at times I may seem annoyed, I genuinely appreciate the endless questions you ask because I know it means you're invested and care about my life. You want to know what's going on and what meetings I'm going to that day and what friends are up to what and what test I'm studying for because you care about the person I am now and the person I am becoming.

Thank you for believing. Thank you for seeing something inside of me and striving to pull that out of me. You believed in me when I didn't believe in myself. You were my confidence when I had none, and for that, I am forever appreciative. You knew what I could accomplish before I even took the first step, and you nudged me to be bold. Without your confidence and faith in me, I wouldn't be where I am or who I am today. Thank you for believing in me and never giving up on me.

Above all, thank you for being you. You're my biggest cheerleader and greatest role model. By being you, you have taught me how to remain strong in tough situations. You have taught me how to love boldly and live unfiltered. You have shown me that the greatest gift all of us can give this world is by striving to become the person that we know we can be. I am so incredibly grateful to call such an amazing, strong, and beautiful soul my mother, my best friend, my role model, and my biggest supporter. You've given me the greatest gift of all by loving me and investing time in me. I cherish you today and every day for being a mom that loves her kids selflessly and understands sacrificial love. Happy Mother's Day, mommy. Cheers to the best mom around!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
