Dear Little Sister,
If you only knew how honored I feel to call you that. My little sister. You have all different kinds of titles –daughter, best friend, girlfriend, teammate – but to me, your title is my little sister. While I was too young to remember Mom telling me I was going to be a big sister, I do remember other memorable staples of our childhood. Mom would dress us up in the exact same matching outfits and same hair-do. If only that happened now, we would have mental breakdowns due to the embarrassment of matching. I remember all the times I would beat you up because I knew I was stronger (not anymore), and I remember sneaking into your room to wear the new shirt you bought with the tags still on it (that still happens). I honestly could not ask for a better sister to grow up with.
Dear Little Sister,
Since we are so close in age, you and I went through a lot of the same periods of our life together such as middle school, high school and soon, college. We had the same struggles in middle school; dealing with hormonal teenage girls who were supposed to be our best friends wasn't always pretty nor fun. In high school, we both turned to each other for boy and school advice. I can't thank you enough for opening up the back door every time I came home after curfew, so Mom and Dad would not hear the front door. I can't thank you enough for all the times I told you what I was doing and begged you not to tell Mom, and you never did. And, I know you can't thank me enough for all the times I gave you advice on ways to get what you want from Mom and Dad. With me being in college now and you leaving soon, I can't wait to give you advice on the best four years of your life.
Dear Little Sister,
Thank you for being you. I know everyone thinks we are twins, and it drives both of us crazy. Mom can't tell our voices apart on the phone, and half of our family can't even tell us apart anymore. But with that being said, as similar as our personalities are, they also could not be more different. While we have the same mannerisms, the same style and the same attitude, you excel as a person; I look up to you as a person. You are kind; you are compassionate; you are strong; you are beautiful. You are everything I wish I could be. You personality radiates any room you walk into, you have enough strength for the both of us and you tell me when I am being irrational or rude. I have never met someone who is the bigger person in every situation and who can love our family as much as you do.
Dear Little Sister,
I can't even express how proud I am of you. I can't express how proud I am to call you my little sister. Your future husband is going to have to be pretty amazing to marry a girl like you. I can't wait to see all the great things you accomplish in college and in life. You are going to do such amazing things, and I can't wait to cheer you on every second. Thank you for dealing with my psychoticness when nobody else would (or can). Thank you making fun of Mom with me and thank you for giving me advice on what to do with my life. I know I am not always the best big sister, and I am damn far from perfect, but having you as a little sister makes my job as a big sister much easier. So, thank you, little sister, for being the best blessing in my life.
Love,
Your Big Sister
