Dear Dad,
Don't worry. Even though I live hours away from you now that I’m in college, I will always be your little girl. Remember, I am just a call away. Even if it’s 8 a.m. and I was up until 4 a.m. studying for finals, I will answer. I might be a little bit crabby, but I’ll still answer. If you need me, I will be there. You are the best dad that I could ever ask for and I would do anything for you. I know you worry about me all the time, but you don’t have to.
Please trust that I have listened to your advice over the years and that I have taken it to heart. With that said...
Don't worry, I stay on top of my school work.
I’m not going to lie, I’ve slept through a few classes and I’ve put off assignments until the last possible minute, but I’m still doing well in school. I am determined to graduate on time with a good GPA. I promise I will make you proud.
Don't worry, I don’t talk to strangers.
Luckily for me, I chose to go to a smaller university. Because there are only about 10,000 students here, it’s very easy to become friends with the people I’m constantly surrounded by. If someone is a stranger to me, a simple introduction and some small talk can change that. I’ve always got a friend by my side here.
Don't worry, I’m not going to wear myself out.
I know that working thirty hours a week, taking five classes, and trying to maintain a social life is difficult. Somehow, I’ve found a way to do all of that plus write for the Odyssey and become a potential new member of a sorority here on campus. I promise that if I get too overwhelmed, I will take a break and try to re-arrange my schedule.
Don't worry, I keep extra blankets in my car, just in case.
In fact, I keep an entire emergency kit in my car. It’s a bag filled with water, blankets, warm clothes, jumper cables, and a flashlight. If my car ever breaks down, I will be safe. Thanks to your advice, I’ve learned it’s better to be prepared before something bad happens rather than try to prevent it from happening again.
Don't worry, I’m always good, and if I’m not, I’m really, really bad.
Just kidding. I promise I’m not a hardcore partier that goes out every night and ends up forgetting my weekends. Most nights are spent cuddled up next to my dog in front of the TV. Occasionally, there will be ice cream too.
Thank you for everything Dad.
You really don’t know how much your advice means to me. You may think it goes in one ear and out the other, but it doesn’t. Thanks to you, I am the person I am today. I promise you don’t have to worry.
