Dear Cancer,
Why do you do what you do? Why are you here? Why were you created?
I find it hard to wrap my head around the fact that God created so many beautiful things. Sunsets and sunrises, ice cream cones drenched in hot fudge, days at the ballpark, and the list goes on. There are so many wonderful moments and opportunities that this planet grants us, but you suck the fun out of these things, put people at disadvantages, and remove the life and love of the world from innocent people. You are a relentless creature, sitting in the bodies of every day people, waiting for your chance to attack.
Cancer, why do you find joy in bringing people pain? Why do you provide people and families with such heartache and confusion? I have known far too many people affected by you. Some are strong enough to fight you off and keep you away for good. Others are haunted by you time and time again, and must put up a strong front too many times. And my heart breaks the most for those who succumb to your deviousness and your treachery, leaving them helpless, causing them to lose their fight.
I often wonder that if you knew the harm you were causing and were not so narrow minded, that maybe you would stop what you're doing. Maybe you would see that there are people out here who simply just want to live their lives without the interruption or fear of the future. Life is a beautiful thing, and I truly wish you knew that you do not only take away so much from your victim, but also from their loved ones and those who mean the most to them.
Losing someone to your fight leaves others crippled and heartbroken, searching for answers and leaving them with worries of whether they will be the next target. Watching someone battle for their life leaves their family and friends hanging onto every word and every moment shared with them. Hearing the words, "you have cancer" leaves everyone with their stomach in knots and a head filled with what if's. You are no friend. You are simply an enemy. You are cruel and heartless, and I wish with all of my heart that I could provide some sort of empathy for you, but simply my heartaches speak for themselves. You have taken away the most incredible, inspiring, and loving people, and for that I will never forgive you.
I am speaking and pouring my heart out as if you were a person who could actually understand me, but as silly as it seems, somehow it is the best way to get all of the thoughts I cannot truly understand off my chest and out of my brain. With that said, I will leave you with this: You are the worst. Simply speaking, I have no empathy for you, no solace, no understanding. For life is a beautiful thing, and with our knowledge of you and your capabilities, we must enjoy every aspect of this journey we are living. Life is not only composed of these little moments, but what we make of them. I may live in fear that you will someday haunt me or my family or my friends once again, but for now I will set my mind to conquering you in every shape and form, ultimately living a life I am proud of. Continue being the worst thing to grace this Earth and enjoy your time for now, but know that someday soon you will cease to exist.
With no love at all,
Your worst enemy
