Note: This is actually my cover letter that I had sent to BuzzFeed; I loved it so much that I thought I'd share it with you. Here's to hoping that I nail the process and get hired!
Dear
I live only a train ride away from New York City, and have always adored the smiles that BuzzFeed would bring to millions of people. Like most of my cover letters, I usually let the company know that it has been a lifelong goal for me to work for them, and that I have been dreaming about it since I stopped wetting the bed; unfortunately, this is not the case since I didn’t discover BuzzFeed until 2014. So, for about two years and some change, working for BuzzFeed has relentlessly been on my mind.
I’ve actually previously spoken to a few BuzzFeed employees, and although I don’t remember their names, their advice will stick with me for the rest of my life: “Don’t bother sending us a 'listicle’ of why you should be hired; we get enough of those already.” So naturally I will follow the wise man’s advice, and never send a listicle as a part of my cover letter.
1. My passion for my field is strong.
I have a healthy dedication to my work and will stop at nothing to provide noteworthy results.
2. My work is like my religion.
I am currently interning at the New Jersey Performing Art’s Center, one of the largest performing arts centers in the nation. I dedicate my hours at the Performing Arts Center past my contract, in order to provide extra help where it is needed. I am willing to put my 110% into work, especially if my dream of working for BuzzFeed becomes a reality.
3. If I were to use a quote to describe my leadership skills I would love to use the words of every Freshman at a senior party: “This is lit."
I feel that my business experience would excel at BuzzFeed, and I am more than confident that I will not disappoint. I definitely know when to take the mic, unlike some people.
4. I am not qualified for the position.
Note: I am #notwithhim, and I understand that BuzzFeed dropped out of a deal with the Trump campaign and cannot express how much I appreciate that. Thank you for being #woke.
5. But I’m sure that I can impress.
Please see the attached resume with the application to experience the same feels as “Promo-Guy”
I know I am equipped to deal with the demands of any position at BuzzFeed and other positions should they become available. In addition, I have developed “a very particular set of skills, skills that I have acquired over a very long career.” Guy actor from the movie, "Taken."
Turns out I sent a listicle, anyways -- whoops!
