Dear Little Brother

"I will always be your protector, your cheerleader, your confidant."

Dear little brother,

At this point you've grown up some so you don't see yourself as my "little" brother, but that's always what you'll be to me. Over the years I've watched you grow up, learn new things, and develop into an incredible person. Through this time, I've also kept some things to myself, things I'd like to tell you now.

You're stronger than you know

I know you think you're strong, and you are, but there is still more strength to be found in you. The kind of strength that gets you through rough patches and gets you out of bed on those dark days. The kind of strength that allows you to open up and be vulnerable to people you trust. This is the strength that is rarely mentioned but critical to life.

Choose your battles

I know it's tempting to fight every one, to argue that you're right in every situation, but don't. There is a time and a place for everything. In time, you will learn which fights to concede, and which ones are worth fighting. Fighting all of them will just leave you exhausted and defensive, trust me.

You have greatness in you

Being the little brother isn't easy. I know that through the years I've picked on you but know this: I believe in you. You are incredibly talented in your own way, and I have no doubt that you'll find a way to be successful by using those talents.

You always have someone in your corner

While we may have bickered throughout our childhood, I will always be there for you. I will always be your protector, your cheerleader, your confidant. If you ever need me, just say the word and I'll be there. I may not say it very often but I love you and you mean the world to me. Remember that when we're in the middle of a fight.

My hope for you is that you see the mistakes I've made and learn from them. I hope you ask me about college and life so you don't have to figure it out like I did. I hope you see that you will always have a friend in me. All you have to do is ask.

Forever and always,

Your big sister

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
