Dear Best Friend's Boyfriend

Ten years ago, my best friend and I were talking about how we were never going to have boyfriends because we were too crazy. Look at you now, you have a boyfriend and I don’t know how to feel. All I know is that I am one protective best friend.

Dear Bff’s Boyfriend,

So, you’re dating my best friend? I applaud you for putting up with her. But there are some things I want you to know. My best friend is one loved girl, not just by her parents and siblings but by me. We have been through so much together that it’s crazy. No, I probably will not like you. But, if I do end up liking you, you’re lucky. She is such a special girl and it takes a lot to put up with her.

Here are some pointers for you, starting with food. She is low maintenance, which means she does not mind CookOut or ANY fast food restaurant. She'd much rather wear her leggings and a t-shirt over dressing up. Not saying that she doesn’t like dressing up but it’s not an everyday thing for her. If you do take her out for a nice dinner, she’s not a fan of expensive chain restaurants. She likes little mom and pop owned places. If you’re lucky enough to get her to a chain nice restaurant, you better let her eat whatever she wants.

Off of the food subject, to her lifestyle. Don’t be alarmed when she chooses her family over you. She loves her family more than anything and would do anything for them. If she ever chooses you over her family, you better treat her to something nice because that was a hard decision for her. She will do everything she can to keep you happy. She will try and cook dinner (she has become a better chef thanks to me) for you, do your laundry, or simply just keep telling you nice things. She’s a lover, not a fighter. These features also make her very vulnerable, do not take that for granted. She won’t tell you that she is upset, but don’t worry, I will.

Our relationship is thick as stone. If you’re dating her, you will see a lot of me. Yes, I will randomly show up at her place without warning. Yes, I will know everything that goes on in your relationship. Yes, I will come after you if you hurt her. I have to be her mean side since she tends not to show it.

Dating my best friend is a very special relationship. She will make you feel like you are a King. Which means she deserves to treated as a Queen. She has a heart of gold that is the most beautiful. My best friend is beautiful inside and out and deserves to be loved and given the best.

Don’t break her heart unless you want to deal with me.

Goodluck, I applaud you.

Sincerely, the best friend.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
