Dear Baby Sis,

Some may say that there is no such thing as perfect, but when it comes to you, I beg to differ.

We are separated by 14 years of life, and I often find myself thinking, “How in the world did I make it through those first 14 years without you?” Your contagious smile, outlook on life, curiosity, and sweet heart has brought so much joy to our family.

Our sister bond doesn’t consist of late night talks about girl drama. Or about that boy that broke your heart. We don’t share (steal) each other’s clothes, or wear the same size shoe. Our bond is somewhat unusual, but it’s perfect.

I paint your nails, brush your hair, and sneak make up on your face when mom isn’t looking. We spend time coloring in pages and pages of Disney Princesses, watching the movie Frozen, and playing with Barbies (you are always Barbie, and I am always Ken). You’re lucky that I am mature enough to let that one slide because trust me, I think it would of been quite the fight if we were closer in age.

As you get older and become more aware of the big world around you, I want you to know how special you are. You have such a big heart, and that will bring you the most important friendships, relationships, and opportunities throughout your life. You sure are one sweet girl.

As much as I love watching you grow up and mature, I also want to hold on tight to your little girl moments and your innocence as long as I can. You have so much life ahead of you, and I have no doubts that you will accomplish wonderful things throughout your lifetime. You are determined, strong willed, passionate and smart. Please always use those wonderful traits for good things, and always remember to love life.

I wish I could say that the world is a safe place; everyone is kind like you, and that the best things come easy. But that’s not always the case. I want you to know that people will be mean, you will fail at some point, and some days will be much harder than others. But, I know that you will use your positive energy, kindness, strength and willingness to do the right thing to defeat any challenge that comes your way.

Please always know how beautiful you are. In a world that struggles to define true beauty, I hope you can someday understand that it comes from within. Your smile, hazel colored eyes, thick brown hair, and soft skin are just a few of the many perfect traits that make up your beauty on the outside. Your caring and sweet personality that is filled with so much joy and love is just the start to your true beauty on the inside, and that is what is most important.

Life is filled with decisions, and you will be faced with more and more as you get older. Some will be more important than others, but always remember to make the right choice for you. Do what is right, and good things will follow.

Always trust yourself, follow your heart, love unconditionally, take chances, and stand up for what you believe in. You deserve nothing but the absolute best.

You changed my life forever the moment I met you, and I am so lucky to have you as my baby sister. I promise to always stand by your side, protect you, and cheer you on throughout your journey.

I love you to the moon and beyond!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
