*Spoiler Alert: This is your only warning.
My Valentine’s Day date took me to see “Deadpool” after our V-Day dinner. I saw the trailer ahead of time, so I kind of had an idea of what it was about, but honestly, once the movie started, I realized that it was completely different from what I thought.
As someone who was never into superhero movies, I just expected a movie that I was not going to be able to follow well, followed by numerous explosions and references to other characters I did not know of.
I was wrong. “Deadpool” was witty, hilarious, and a superhero movie I genuinely enjoyed. As someone who has never read a comic book in their life, I was able to get fully into the movie and understand everything that was going on. I knew all of the superhero's name's and what their powers were; which is something I rarely remember during your typical "save the city in peril" movies. "Deadpool" had many plot twists as well interesting characters that helped build upon each other.
An often shirtless Ryan Reynolds plays "Wade," an ex special forces member who is looking for a way to save his own life. He unknowingly signs his life away to a man who promises to make him better, but doesn't realize his life would change forever.
It was filmed in a way that made it extremely different from other superhero movies I have seen. Also, not to mention, it’s not much of a superhero movie, because Deadpool is kind of a jerk. He can best described as someone who is going to get what he wants, but might kill a bunch of people in the process.
The movie has an interesting plot, which is loosely based on his love for his wife, but not directly based on saving her. Deadpool’s main mission is to save himself. Without giving away too much, he is basically out for revenge for the person who actually made him a superhero; because it’s a blessing and curse.
Basically, this movie is for everyone (except children obviously, it is Rated R). Anyone who enjoys witty humor, a little bit of action and a small love story on the side would really appreciate the cinematographic masterpiece that is “Deadpool.” Overall score? 10/10, would see again!
