In our daily lives in college, there are so many things that stress us out. Most commonly, coursework tends to be one of the biggest stressors in the day-to-day life of a college student. It is hard to stay ahead of a pile of 2 papers, an exam, a project, going to office hours to ask questions about a confusing class, and multitudes of smaller assignments. On top of the academic stress, a lot of stress also comes with friendships and relationships, trying to go to the gym enough to feel good about yourself and stay in shape, going to extracurriculars, and trying to figure out when you're going to have time to eat through it all. Trying to balance all of these things can seem very daunting at times, but it lessens the pain when you take a little time to relax, and get your mind away from all of your responsibilities. There are so many ways to do this, which is great because people relax in different ways. Here are some of my favorite ways to de-stress in college.

1. Exercise

Whether it's going to the gym, running around campus, or taking a fitness class, breaking a sweat has been scientifically proven to help you relax. When you work out, your brain releases endorphins, which are chemicals that make you happy. Exercise is a great way to briefly take your mind off of things, and I like to think about it as balance, as it is important to expel an equal amount of physical energy to all of the mental energy that you are expelling during your classes and assignments.

2. Hanging Out With Friends

Having friendship time can be one of the most therapeutic things do to de-stress in college. Hanging out for even only a half hour can be enough to calm you down. Nobody understands what you're going through more than they do. Having a good laugh or venting session is always a good cure.

3. Reading

Reading a book that's ~not~ for a class can relieve stress easily. Reading a couple of chapters a story that you actually want to read can help you to forget momentarily about your stressful day. I like to read for enjoyment right before bed, to decompress and relax with a good story.

4. Netflix

This one is definitely great in moderation, but be careful, because Netflix and any other forms of TV has the power to do more harm than good. However, a couple episodes here and there does wonders in helping you to feel better about your responsibilities. Add a couple of snacks in there, and you will be in a great place.

5. Meditation

Closing your eyes and clearing your mind is wonderful when you are really worried about something. Focus on your breathing, and play music that is calming to you.

6. Going Outside

Weather dependent of course, the outdoors can really help you relieve your stress. Some vitamin D is wonderful for not only your physical health, but also for your mental health. Whether you choose toss a Frisbee or set up a blanket and read a book, the fresh air has the power to rejuvenate your mind.

7. Coloring

The adult-coloring aficionados are very right about their pastime. Coloring patterns and designs is so mindless and fun that it is an instant de-stressor.

8. Looking At Pictures Of Puppies On The Internet

Not even kidding, this one really works.

Alrighty! That's my list of de-stressors! Hopefully they can help you feel a little less stressed about your busy college schedules!

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
