If UD Buildings Were Ben & Jerry's Flavors

A cone of Caffeine Roesch perhaps?

If UD Buildings Were Ben & Jerry's Flavors

The University of Dayton has many things: A+ faculty, civic engagement, Marianist spirit ... and Ben & Jerry's. The scoop shop holds a dear place in our hearts. It's practically an honorary UD building. That being the case, let's dream up some ice creamy connections. Below are 11 Flyer Flavors, inspired by UD's campus and community.

1. Stuart Slog

Everyone knows the long trek up to Stuart. Think rocky road, but crank it up a notch. Chocolate ice cream, uber fluffy marshmallows and chocolate covered almonds. Add an espresso swirl because your legs are tired and that hill just got bigger.

2. Marycrest Medley

Good old MC. This sundae would include seven mini scoops of ice cream, each different flavor paying tribute to all seven of Marycrest's floors. Add whipped cream to make it a real penthouse.

3. Flounder's Food

Similar to Ben & Jerry's Phish Food. Chocolate ice cream, marshmallow swirls, caramel swirls and little chocolate flounders. While Founder's Hall doesn't officially have an aquatic name, it'll always be Flounder's Hall to many Flyers.

4. Tasty Toffee

Inspired by the Humanities building, overflowing with English class. Vanilla ice cream, swirls of caramel and a few sophisticated spots of English toffee pieces. Eat up, chaps.

5. Caffeine Roesch

Fuel that studying with some bold coffee ice cream with fudgey espresso swirls and chocolate covered coffee beans. Be sure to bring some to the nun dolls.

6. St. Joe's Jam

An ode to an oldie, St. Joe's Jam travels back to a time of simple things that have stood the test of time. Sweet cream ice cream and Ohio strawberries. Delicious, but keep it cold. Unlike St. Joe's, if some heat comes near that cone, it can't be rebuilt.

7. KU Kraze

Few things please a college kid more than breakfast for dinner, especially when KU provides it for free during finals week. While this isn't a 1 a.m. waffle, it could be a 1 a.m. waffle cone. Vanilla ice cream, crushed Cinnamon Toast Crunch and maple fudge swirls.

8. Marianist Mint

Everyone at UD loves the Marianists. They're cool. They're chill. Just like this ice cream. Mint and vanilla ice cream swirls (Marianists are all about togetherness) with dark chocolate Jesus fishes.

9. Praline Crunches

Inspired by all the fit monkeys that grace the Rec Plex each day, here is a lighter version of praline crunch ice cream. Start with vanilla frozen Greek yogurt, then swirl in ribbons of caramel and sweet praline pecans for a burst of protein.

10. Red [Velvet] Scare

Because this red velvet ice cream is scary good. Red velvet cake ice cream--naturally dyed Rudy Red--with pieces of red velvet cake and ribbons of cream cheese frosting. Served in matching Rudy Red waffle cone. Gooooo Dayton Flyers!

11. Chapel Core

Start with a solid base cone. Fill with vanilla bean ice cream. Drill a hole of hot fudge in the center, because what's inside matters. Top with heavenly clouds of fluffy whipped cream. Sprinkle with chapel blue sprinkles. Add a small white chocolate cross on top, because wherever you see that dome is home.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
