Having a gamer boyfriend or girlfriend can be both fun and annoying. If you like to play video games yourself, it is a serious plus to date someone who has a similar interest in video games. If you guys both have the money for games (or if you have a lot of games already), you can play them together whenever you need some down time or a stress reliever.
However, if only one of you can afford to spend tons of money and tons of hours on video games without any problems, the other can end up feeling left out. This can definitely happen if your partner loves to play constantly no matter what’s going on.
If you want alone time with your boyfriend or girlfriend, or you have something really important to say, tell them before they even think about playing video games. Once they start playing, they're not getting off. You’ll be hearing them say, “Just let me finish this level,” or “Let me finish this round first.” Hint: they won’t be finished for a while. Every once in a while, you can let it slide, but don’t let it happen too often.
People usually say, “Don’t beat your boyfriend at his own game,” but that’s completely fine. If he has a problem with you beating him at a game, then that’s a problem. Imagine what it would be like if he played against other girls or other people and they beat him?
No matter what gender your gamer is, only help them play when they ask you to. It’s a gamer courtesy. Play together as a team or try co-op.
Dating a gamer is not bad at all. You just need to make sure that the gamer you are dating has their priorities straight. Video games are awesome, but you should always be way more important than a video game.
