Unless you've been living under a rock, you probably have seen or have read an article on how screwed up this generation's dating scene is. I personally have a big pet peeve with what seems to have become part of "the norm" in relationships. The words "date" and "dating" are vastly approaching their extinction in today's vocabulary. Asking a girl out on a date has become replaced by asking them to "hang out." I feel as though most guys don't fully comprehend the difference that those two words imply to us girls. Asking a girl to hang out usually implies that you're more interested in hooking up than anything else. It usually includes watching Netflix or movies in someone's basement, (which is totally fine later on in a relationship, but definitely isn't going to impress a girl for the first hang out). When a guy asks a girl out on a date it shows that they're taking more interest in us, and displays better intentions.
I feel as though dates have been fabricated into a huge ordeal that have to cost a lot of money and try to be super extravagant when they simply do not have to be. A date can be a $2 ice cream cone and a trip to the beach to watch the sunset. Going on dates makes a girl feel prioritized and interested in. Hanging out makes us feel like you're "hanging out" with a lot of other girls as well (and you most likely are).
How sad is it that the other day after asking my friend how her first date with a guy went she responded with, "It was weird to actually be taken out on a date...It went great." We unfortunately have created a society where dates are rare and foreign. Going on dates should be normal and somewhat of a standard. Why have we settled for hangouts that imply this "no strings attached" motto?
Dating needs to be reborn in today's society. It should no longer be replaced with "hanging out." If a boy can't grow the courage to ask you on a date, he definitely does not deserve your time that would be spent "hanging out." Bring back dating, it is far too soon to be extinct in our vocabulary.
