Why Dads Need More Appreciation

We can't forget our amazing Daddios

Why Dads Need More Appreciation
Danielle Rhea

Mothers were God's gift to Earth, so they say. A mother's hug can apparently cure world hunger. A mother can sew up your ripped apart heart, while at the same time sew up your ripped apart jeans. They're really spectacular individuals, beautiful species, but they aren't the only thing given to us at birth. The heavens found it fitting to grant us the rebellious counterpart to a mother, more wild and an individual with different ... outlooks on life: dads. This group of men is highly under appreciated, and I comprised a list to remind them, if not yourself, of the reason as to why Dads are so kick ass.

1. He will almost always do what Mom won't do or let you do.

Bless our dads' hearts for not understanding what their wives want. It works in our favor and I couldn't be more thankful. When Mom says you cannot go to the football game shirtless with the guys and letters painted on you there is always Dad who will paint the letters on you and tell you, "Yeah, you look damn good son!"

2. They LOVE to spend money.

This isn't inferring that dads are bad with money, it just means they aren't cheap, weird, thrifty moms. Dad will always consider the quality of what he is buying before he considers how much he is spending. If it's not of good quality, who cares how much you can get for crap quality?

3. They will fight the other dad on the opposing team.

No dad is safe watching their kid play their sport.

"Did your kid just illegally hit my kid Doug?!"

"No, YOUR kid just flopped like a fish"

AND BAM, instant yelling and fist throwing. A dad won't let your pride and dignity fall on his watch.

4. They also are your personal coach.

I think I have had countless times where Daddy dearest of mine has told me the ins and outs of soccer. How to "own your house." How to go about a Behind the back roll and tuck without ever doing one himself. Dad knows best no matter the sport he hasn't ever played.

5. Rules can be extremely bendable.

Rules are highly important in parents' eyes, but how easily can they be altered or pushed? I'm not saying this is true for all dads, but I have experienced plenty of fathers who have decided to take matters into their own hands and neglect the rules. They create alternative options for you and we absolutely love it! (Don't tell mom though!)

6. They're a mechanic, architect, plumber, computer tech wiz.

Somehow along a father's life, he was able to acquire the abilities to build, fix and enhance the things in our lives. This is not to say the things that are being built or fixed will stay built and fixed but nevertheless, they seem to act as if they know what they're doing and we continue to put our lives in their hands.

7. They are our own personal Hit Man.

Regardless if you are boy or girl, we hate spiders. I have a theory, though, once a man slowly becomes a husband or father he begins to morph into some type of superhero. Much more advanced than Batman or Spider-man. A dad can walk into the crime scene and murder that eight-legged creature without fear.

8. They see right through the BS.

No matter the friends I've thought were my BFF or the boyfriend or girlfriends I brought home and Mom loved, Dad did not mind telling me they were not good to have around. I didn't listen, but I absolutely should have. Sorry I'm an idiot.

9. He has a way with words.

Whether it's giving his advice on how women work to his son or his insight on how that shirt looks on his daughter, a dad knows how to word it. After years and years of dating and and being married to his wife, a father has been punished enough for the amount of times he has said the wrong thing. He has become wiser from sleeping on the couch and being put in the Doghouse.

10. His anger is a fraud.

He only yells at you because Mom had told him to. Point blank. The man loves you.

11. Teddy Bears are living.

Dads have this weird demeanor that they're some scary intimidating, big guy but through the years, you just realize your Dad is a walking talking sensitive marshmallow.

12. They're built for wrapping around fingers.

The men have no boundaries as to where to stop their overwhelmingly giving ways. Dads are made to be a daughter's peasant and a son's supporter. Sorry dads, guess you're forever a house elf to your kids.

13. His love is unconditional.

Regardless of how much we love our mothers, a dad will always be by your side to hug you through a breakup or stand by you when you sign your college commitment paper.

We love you, Dads.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
