There's just one sparkling, unique thing about a father-daughter bond unlike any experience in this lifetime, a diamond in the rough. Of course you have your friends, other family, teammates, sorority sisters, pets, or whatever it may be, they are there, but nothing will ever compare to the special, tight bond you and your dad share. For me, my dad is my best friend. I tell him almost everything; he's the first person I call to tell when something good comes my way. And when I forget to mention something, it doesn't feel right.
He also carries multiple titles in my life: dad, life coach, role model, chef, doctor, therapist, shoulder to cry on, best friend, and DJ (he does that on the side). It amazes me that one person can have so much love for another. The amount of things I put my father through on a daily basis should be illegal. For example, the first day I had my license, I got into an accident. Then the following week, another one, yet he still loves me unconditionally. Not to mention I've gotten booted seven times while being at college, but he's still there.
As humans, we are bound to make mistakes, and life is just a learning process; one that takes a long time to master, regardless the amount of advice and support I receive from my dad everyday. There's something special about the relationship a father and daughter share that a mother may never quite understand.
Whether it's the first sport that you play, and your dad's on the sideline cheering you on. No matter how badly you may suck, you still think you're really good because he's there telling you that you are. Or if it's your first bad grade in school: mom might be mad, but dad says an F is for 'fantastic' and to keep trying. Or when it's time for bed, but you can't sleep, and dads always are there to read you that bedtime story you've already heard 100 times, but every time he tells it to you, you fall asleep.
Or when the first boy picks you up for a date, and your dad scares the sh*t out of him and tells him that if he doesn't have you home by 10 p.m., there are going to be some serious issues. Or when you finally move out of for college, and he calls you at least 50 times to make sure that nothing has happened within the first hour of you being on your own. More importantly, when he walks you down the aisle to give you to the man that you love, letting him know he has his blessing.
There are certain things in life that we have the opportunity to experience, and I do believe that out of all of those this is one of the most beautiful. With my dad by my side, I feel invincible and untouchable by all of life's evil. Even though the reality of that isn't quite true, he makes you feel that way and, for the moment, it's great. So here's to all the dads out there keep making your daughters feel like superstars.
