If you're someone who cares about what's going on in American politics right now (which, as an American, I believe is extremely important), then you must know that the past few weeks have been a whirlwind of tragedy, frustration on both political sides, and some dare I say, chaos.
Being a young college student, sometimes It helps to make sense of the current political climate and happenings through comedy, as SNL has shown again and again. Of course, staying informed is key, but some laughs here and there certainly don't hurt.
So what better way to parody America at this point than through a comedy television series, especially one that primarily deals with the chaotic lifestyles of government employees living in a town that constantly experiences misfortune? That's right, here's our current government as told by "Parks and Recreation."
FULL DISCLOSURE: You may not like this article if you are an avid supporter of our current president or administration. What I imagine reasonable voters of President Trump may be thinking after the President's most recent speech in Phoenix.
After watching endless videos and news coverage on the horrific events in Charlottesville, VA. The feeling for those still supporting the archaic ideas of white supremacy is nothing short of disgust. However, although it's extremely hard being exposed to these images, we have to understand what's going on for the sake of the country. (But seriously, I highly recommend the Charlottesville documentary produced by VICE. Even if it makes you want to throw away your computer.)
The fear of starting political conversations in public spaces, and the awkwardness that ensues if it's clear that you're on VERY different sides. (NOTE: It's still important to have those conversations! Don't be afraid!)
For those who ever watch CNN, this is how it feels hearing Anderson Cooper blatantly call President Trump out on his B.S, with no fear whatsoever. Besides the silver fox look going on, the man's got guts.
Who doesn't love Ron Swanson? But we have to admit that this moment perfectly describes what's going on in the presidents head right now...
The fact that we may face a government shutdown because of relentless efforts to keep "The Wall" alive, even against opposing arguments within the White House. It's not happening. Time to move on. ![]()
The Great Confederate Monument Debate: Who Will Claim Victory? No matter what decision you believe should be made in relation to keeping or removing Confederate monuments across the nation, these major changes take time. Patience is still important for peace, my friends.
When more time is spent talking about CNN's camera men and "fake news" than actual issues. Is getting the entire room to chant "CNN sucks!!" really a great use of your time in front of a public audience?
Going on Facebook after watching the news, and being bombarded by happy, adorable, and comedic videos that are strategically placed in order to help us deal with the universal frustration being dealt with across the nation. I mean, an Eclipse made from different colored puppies? There's nothing more ridiculous... yet up lifting.
Of course, there is more going on in American politics than mentioned in this article, and I recognize that. But for the sake of simplicity, I focussed on things that the majority of people can understand and relate to. Plus, there are some things that simply cannot be parodied using gifs.
And remember, no matter how much we can hate on the President, his administration, and even those around us who may have extremely different political views....
Until next time!
