The holidays are rolling through quickly and you've passed the first round of cringe-worthy questioning at Thanksgiving dinner: "So, are you seeing anyone?" Didn't see that one coming, did we? It's about time to add the pressure to get cuffed among some of the stress that comes with finals week. Lay it on me. (Cuffed: taken, tied down by a serious relationship) The decision to sit this year out may or may not have been voluntary, but here's a general depiction of the rollercoaster of thoughts that we single folk have during cuffing season:
1. Mourning the loss of a close friend to the dating world. They'll squeeze BFF time into their schedule soon enough, right?
2. Then it gets you thinking and reflecting on where you went wrong...
3. Yet out of the 40,000 students on campus...
Not that finding a significant other should be compared to shopping, but we do only invest if they're quality, right?
4. Despite this itching feeling in the back of your mind, you'll be fine.
You have your best friends, after all. And your family. And food. And shelter. Time to focus on how happy these things make you feel, especially during the holiday season. Seriously, it's so fine. Everything will be fine.
5. It also doesn't help that you run for the hills whenever you start to feel the feels.
Weren't crushes reserved for elementary school? At what point does this become a cause for concern?
6. There's also the envy that kicks in when you hear the cute couple next to you:
7. Lastly, when your non-single friends are kind enough to try and offer advice:
Despite all of these muddled emotions, it's necessary to take a step back and appreciate the fact that one person will always be there for you-- and that person is you.
Not too shabby.
Sincerely,
Your Fellow Uncuffable
