13 Creepy Stories That Will Make You Lose Sleep
Creepypasta

I'm very fascinated by scary stories, so much so that I have fallen asleep to Creepypasta narrations (and is also part of the reason for my Supernatural obsession). Halloween is months away, but do you know what's coming up very soon? Friday the 13th! To me, that seems like the perfect excuse to revisit some of my favorite Creepypastas. All of the following stories have sent chills down my spine more than once and they never fail to grip my attention completely. Enjoy and read/listen to the full stories at your own risk!

1. 11 Miles

Would you drive down a freezing, abandoned road for 11 miles in order to get the one thing you most desire? Apparently, if you do just that, you have to follow very specific instructions, or else things will go terribly, terribly wrong. This story gets to me every time. I don't think anything in the world is worth the risk that comes with this 11-mile road.

2. Candle Cove

Originally written just as a creepy story, the mystery of the early-70s children's TV show "Candle Cove" has since become something of an Urban legend. If you're unfamiliar with this, I suggest you read the story, because I don't want to spoil anything! A little backstory: "Candle Cove" was allegedly a low-budget pirate puppet show that ran for a few months in 1971, and the Creepypasta involves an online thread of people reminiscing about the creepy show.

3. Resort Connection

This story follows a hotel receptionist who receives a series of phone calls from people concerned about their reservations in another hotel located in the Caribbean. The receptionist soon realizes that they should have ignored the calls for a very disturbing reason. This isn't your typical ghost story, but if you enjoy the idea of being contacted by the dead, then this story is for you.

4. Ben Drowned

"BEN Drowned" starts with the narrator purchasing a sketchy N64 copy of "The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask" from a garage sale, but this copy seems to be haunted by a character named Ben. I highly recommend listening to this story instead of reading it, because if you read it, you'll be missing out on some awesome "footage"!

5. Abandoned By Disney

According to this story, Disney once attempted to open a theme park and resort called Mowgli's Palace in Emerald Isle, North Carolina, but the project stopped mid-construction and the park was quickly abandoned. Somebody apparently explored the area, revealing the park's post-apocalyptic nature and the creepy, moldy mascot costumes that are definitely nightmare fuel. Unfortunately, I just found out that Mowgli's Palace was never real, which takes a little oomph out of this Creepypasta. Oh well; it's still worth the read.

6. This Man

Have you ever seen this man...in your dreams? If so, you're apparently not alone. Although this story is purely fictional, there are people who still believe it and claim that they have indeed seen him in their dreams. If this were real, I'd never be able to sleep again for fear of the possibility that this man would make a possible appearance in my dreams. Freaky!

7. The Rake

I don't know about you, but NOPE NOPE NOPE! I know it's impossible for a dog-like humanoid creature like this to even exist, but just imagining one appearing at the foot of my bed gives me the heebie-jeebies. Thank goodness my bedroom window isn't good for climbing in and out!

8. Sim Albert

This story is about a guy who finds his old "Sims" computer game and sees a strange family that he doesn't remember. The star of the show is the child Albert, who remains mysteriously unscathed while the rest of the family slowly burns to death. I don't know what it is about haunted games that fascinates me...I'm just glad stories like this one haven't put me off video games forever. I just hope I never encounter something like BEN or Albert.

9. Kelpie

For whatever reason, this Creepypasta has really stuck with me. A Kelpie is a mythological water horse, and I'm pretty sure their skin isn't supposed to turn into black goo like the one in this story. Now if I ever see a horse by a small, dirty-looking lake or pond, I don't know what I'd do with myself. I'd probably just think about this story and shiver a little before moving on, because as creepy as this story is, I know it's not real. Or is it?

10. The Window

What could've been making the creaking noise at the window? This story is very short, but the best part is that it leaves a lot up to interpretation. Personally, I think the Rake was at the window. Things are scarier when you don't know what they are, which is part of what makes this story so effective in creeping you out. Seriously, though... what was at the window and how did it get in in the first place?

11. Penpal

This is a very long read (and is actually a novel now, though it was first published on Reddit), but it's worth it. Luckily, it's broken up into smaller short stories that don't necessarily have to be read in order. In this story, what happens is that the narrator sends a note tied to the string of a balloon, not expecting to receive an answer. But he got an answer, and things only get crazier from there. It looks like this child has a stalker, and a very human one at that. What could be scarier than a human? If you enjoy a creepy mystery, this one is definitely for you.

12. Robert The Doll

How do you feel about dolls that come to life? No, not the "Toy Story" kind, but more along the lines of "Child's Play" (Chucky). Robert the Doll is actually real, and it now resides in a museum in Florida. Apparently, this doll haunted everyone who came into contact with it, speaking to children and appearing in different places throughout the house even though nobody touched him. Even now, in his glass box in the museum, he continues to haunt people. The doll is real, and I think I actually believe in ghosts because of it. Thanks, Robert!

13. The Crayon

This Creepypasta is about a young couple who buys a house and finds a red crayon that keeps appearing in the same exact spot in the hallway. The husband eventually finds a secret door at the end of the hall which led to a room with words written in red crayon all over the walls. This story is almost more sad than it is creepy, but it also makes you wonder how and why the red crayon keeps showing up in the first place.

Obviously, there are many more great Creepypastas out there, but these are the ones that were most memorable to me (though I did leave a few out because I wanted to have 13 stories in honor of Friday the 13th). If these were enjoyable to you, I seriously recommend checking out more Creepypastas, either at creepypasta.com or YouTube. You never know what kind of new and creepy stories you might find.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
