Only a year ago, then-16-year-old James Charles posted his first makeup picture on Instagram -- an iridescent-purple glowy look on a beautiful model. Since then, he has gained over 650,000 followers on Instagram and 100,000 subscribers on YouTube (and I can definitely see why).
As the year went on, James began to experiment new looks on himself, from wild to exotic to just plain glamorous. His skills continue to improve and impress, as if his makeup over a year ago wasn't already more fabulous than everyone EVER. Seriously, this boy can #slay.
Earlier this week, pop superstar Katy Perry made a pretty huge announcement about James Charles after the two wrapped up a super glamorous photo shoot for a popular beauty line. She wrote, "just wrapped another great @COVERGIRL shoot. Honored to have the pleasure to announce the very first COVERBOY, James Charles!" James is the first ever male spokesmodel for CoverGirl.
James will be introducing CoverGirl's newest mascara, "So Lashy!" before joining other brand ambassadors in commercials and ads. It's crazy to think that only a year ago he was just a high school student from New York who decided to post some of his favorite looks on Instagram.
James briefly went viral last month for his flawless senior pictures. He retook them and posted the absolutely stunning results on his Instagram. It was likely that post that drew the attention of CoverGirl and thousands of followers, and once I saw the picture it was very clear why.
That highlight though...
CoverGirl said in a statement:
All of our CoverGirls are role models and boundary-breakers, fearlessly
expressing themselves, standing up for what they believe, and
redefining what it means to be beautiful. James Charles is no exception. One year ago, he boldly chose
to launch his Instagram to the world, using transformative, dynamic
makeup looks to showcase the many facets of his personality, serving as
an inspiration to women, men, guys and girls who might have been afraid
to do the same.
Congratulations, James!
