Why It's The Best To Have Cousins Close In Age
Briget MacManiman

My whole life, I've been close with my cousin Grace, who is two weeks older than me. I also have a twin sister, and an older sister who is a year and a half older than us, so we've all been pretty close. But, since Grace, Maura, and I have always been at pretty much the same stages in life, we've always stuck together.

Grace is an only child, so my sisters and I fill in for the siblings she never had. We are close enough to be honest with each other, to yell and fight with each other, but we are also close enough to come to each other with anything. We text in our group chat at least 20 times a day.

Grace, Maura, and I are so close to each other and we truly do love each other. Even though we're a lot busier now, we still try to make time to see each other. I cant imagine my life without either one of them.

1. They're like extra siblings.

For my family, my sisters, my cousin, and I are very close. There was always a shoulder to cry on, always someone to talk to about some things others wouldn't understand, and always someone to confide in at family parties.

2. You always have people to play with.

Growing up, we always played with each other. From going to the zoo, to playing at the pool, we always had someone to play with when we were kids.

3. Summers are always spent together.

Every summer, Grace would spend every day with me and my siblings at the pool. So many memories were made between us during that time. We did swim team, went to the beach, went out with our moms, and had great summers growing up.

I was lucky enough to have that time with her every day because it grew our bond to be stronger, and it definitely had an impact on how our relationship is now.

4. The holidays are always fun.

The holidays always bring the family together, and it's always been fun to see each other grow up and get gifts for each other throughout the years. My cousin loves Christmas, so we always go Christmas shopping together, which also makes the holidays fun.

5. Your cousins always there to understand.

When anything bad or upsetting happens in any of our lives, we are always there to support each other. Like I said earlier, we go through mostly the same things in life since we are the same age. It helps to have someone who can understand family drama, boy drama, or anything else.

Cousins always make things better.

6. Their mom becomes your second mom.

For both me and Grace, our moms are very close. They're sisters. Growing up, one of our moms would always be watching all of us at once, so we got close to whoever was watching us. Her mom is like my second mom and vice versa.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
