Acceptance is something people want to feel in the world. Whether it is at school, at a job, or at home, the overall feeling of being accepted is what most people strive for. The ability to let people see you for who you truly are is something that is rare nowadays. Adjustments are made and a shield is put up in order to fit in. But why? Why put yourself through this? Why hide what God created?
The new Cinderella movie that came out last year was truly so sweet and genuine. I loved the truth and heart that was used to convey a story that holds so much meaning. Ever since I saw the movie, the quote, "have courage and be kind," has been my motto. I believe that courage and kindness are two key characteristics that society has struggled with for far too long. It is true that courage requires strength, but everyones level of strength is different. We were not created to reach a certain standard, though society may claim that we should. It is as if life has become a check list. Once you reach a certain step, you move onto the next one. Life is beautiful and deserves to be experienced. If all of your time is occupied on worry and what tomorrow may bring, then you will miss out on all of the fun that is going on today.
The gift of kindness is continuous. By doing a simple act of kindness, you are making a difference. It could be holding the door for someone or giving an uplifting compliment. It is often easy to get caught up in your busy life and forget about the world around you. An act of kindness goes such a long way. It boosts confidence and gives meaning. I know whenever someone gives me a compliment or encouragement, it makes me smile a little bigger. Just the acknowledgement of a smile or a much needed hug is wonderful to give. The ability to put someone else's needs before yours is so important. It is true that doing an act of kindness can make you feel so good, but your ultimate motive should be to make the other person happy. Wherever you can see someone is in need, lend a hand. What kind of world would this be if we did not help each other out? So whether it is passing on a sweet note or staying up late to help a friend study, kindness is easy share. Throw kindness around like confetti!
Courage has always been something that I personally struggle with. I constantly make comments, that belittle the opinion I have towards myself. It is so easy to get caught up in your own flaws that you forget about how it could make other people feel. I look at it this way. Everyone has someone they admire and look up to. It could be someone they know personally or someone famous. It is definitely degrading when you hear that person you admire put themselves down because of their flaws. So remember, the next time you refer to your thighs as tree trunks or your head as a bowling ball, you are not only putting yourself down, but also those who look up to you too.
Life is not easy and people were not made to be perfect. Everyone is beautiful and wonderful in their own way. I like to look at the world for not what it currently is, but what it possibly could be. So many blessings are all around us and they are a reminder that there is so much goodness in this world. It is important to take the time to truly appreciate each and every day, because you never know what tomorrow may bring. Always remember to smile and share a little bit of kindness everywhere you go.
