Have you ever wondered why there were so many rules in life, so many restrictions? Society—and even religion, have placed these boundaries on us all—shaping us a certain way, the way they want us to be. We are all being monitored in some way—laws, sins, rules.

Not many realize it, I'm sure. I didn't even realize it until now. It has become so normal, ingrained in everyday life. Of course, most laws and rules are there for ours and others safety. But then there are the ones that go over the top, that delve deeper into what our society is really like.

Dress codes show just how far from gender equality we really are. Schools are really bad at targeting women with their dress codes. Take this article in consideration. Women are being deemed 'distractions' and such emphasis on women's clothing is teaching our younger generations that women are mere sexual objects. This sexualization is rooted deep into our culture, shaping it into a very volatile society full of inequality and even rape.

Other inequalities also surface thanks to certain laws, especially that of the LGBT community. Luckily (and thankfully), the battle on marriage has somewhat subsided. However, the war is far from over. One such example can be seen in the Anti-LGBT Laws in North Carolina, which also state that transgenders must use the public bathrooms that correspond with the gender listed on their birth certificates. This allowance for such discrimination shows just how much our society is trying to shape us. It is promoting hate and segregation, only furthering our decent into a violent culture.

Another example of inequality is that seen by race, ethnicity, and religion. For example, the racial and religious discrimination on Muslims is one of the most recent events. This xenophobia can be seen in the statements of one of our presidential candidates and his want to shutdown US borders to Muslim peoples. Such hate and violence has only added fuel to the fire of the discrimination in our country.

If we continue on this path of hate and intolerance, violence will ensue. Sadly, a lot of it. We are all on the brink of something big. And there will be consequences.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
