Country Music Is Good For The Soul

While the weather starts to get a little nicer, open those windows and turn it up!

Country Music Is Good For The Soul

I personally am one of those girls with an extremely eclectic taste in music. I listen to rap for one song and then the next I’m on The Jonas Brothers Radio (yes -- they’re stuff still rocks). But when it comes to what really gets me going, the music that I instantly turn up when I’m happy, the music I use to focus, that’s country for sure.

If you’re one of those “I hate country music” types of people, here are some suggestions:

Try listening to it first; a lot of those individuals I know that dislike country music, have never actually listened to it.

Don’t just listen to one song or one artist and write it off; there are so many different styles when it comes to country. Yes, sometimes it all sounds the same but if you give variance to the artists you listen, I guarantee you’ll find something you love.

Have a beer while you’re listening; I’ve never met a single person that can be upset with country music blaring and a beer in their hand…(yes it could be the beer but work with me people).

Listen to it at different times; when you’re sad, country is a great way to let yourself cry. When you’re happy, country is a great way to keep yourself on that high, it all depends on the song you’re listening to.

If I’ve said it once, I’ve said it 100 times; country music is good for your soul. Nothing is better than driving down back roads in July with all of the windows down blasting country music. Laying on the beach soaking up the sun? Country music…sorry but no one can relax to hard-core rap.

Here are a few of my favorites for all you indecisive folks out there:

Saddness: Who You’d Be Today – Kenny Chesney / Tonight I Wanna Cry – Keith Urban

Lovey: H.O.L.Y – Florida Georgia Line / All I Want to Do – Sugarland

Happy: American Country Love Song – Jake Owen / Hey Heartbreak – Jennifer Nettles

Hurting: Ditry Laundry – Carrie Underwood / Little Toy Guns – Carrie Underwood

Nostalgia: Thank God for Hometowns – Carrie (again) / If My Truck Could Talk – Jason Aldean

Heartbroken: All Too Well – Taylor Swift / Holding Out For a Hero – Ella Mae Bowen

Adventurous: How Far Do You Wanna Go – Gloriana / Fast Cars & Freedom – Rascal Flatts

Lost: If Heaven Wasn’t So Far Away – Justin Moore / Like Jesus Does – Eric Church

Tipsy: Down On The Farm – Tim McGraw / Gonna Know We Were Here – Jason Aldean

Accepting: All Kinds of Kinds – Miranda Lambert / Who I Am – Jessica Andrews

Hopeful: When I Pray For You – Dan + Shay / If I Told You – Darius Rucker

Stuck: Chaser – Carrie Underwood / Banjo – Rascal Flatts

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
