I still remember the first time I got my makeup done and being so amazed at how makeup can make you feel. A swipe of red lipstick and some liner, and I felt like a more powerful person. I have always loved science, and when I found out that I could learn to make the makeup I wore every day, I knew that was my future.
To me, feeling empowered is about finding out what you're good at and figuring out what you love then taking those passions and turning them into a career.
I am currently learning about the ingredients that go into beauty and personal care products, different types of makeup products and how they are tested, as well as learning to formulate these products in the lab. I love the fact that I get to formulate products that make women feel confident and more ready to take on the world.
Currently, I am the President of the UT Cosmetic Chemist Society. My job is to coordinate speakers, events, and field trips to help advance Cosmetic Science at the University of Toledo. Within my role, I started a Mentor/Mentee program between current Cosmetic Science students and graduates from the program. It really helps all of our students build a powerful network before they graduate. My mission is to empower the other members of my school to pursue their passions by making successful alumni accessible to serve as rolemodels.
The PINK GRL PWR movement is so inspiring to me because it empowers girls of all ages to work hard to achieve their dreams. Being a part of the PINK Campus Rep program is so rewarding because I get to meet other girl bosses who are killing the game in their fields. I'm so honored to be able to have the platform to talk about something I am so passionate about.
