I'm going to miss President Barack Obama

President Obama holds a special place in my heart. He was the first president that I ever voted for, and I was lucky enough to have the first black president be my first official vote for president. To be a part of and witnessing history is something that I think a lot of people take for granted, whether you liked him or not.

This isn't to say I've never had any gripes with President Obama. He has done some things I wish he wouldn't have, and not done some things I wish he would have. If you agree with someone more often than you don't I think that is a win for a presidency. You're never going to get everything you want, and sometimes you have to step outside of your bubble to make sure you're not just blindly following someone.

I'm not taking his flaws lightly either, NSA spying is still a huge issue he's yet to address in a significant way,we drone too many civilians in other countries, and Flint, Michigan still doesn't have water, but overall I am going to miss President Obama in office.

While I do love having someone I share the same philosophy as and someone on my "team" in the White House, a lot of what I'll miss has nothing to do with policy.

I've heard commentators speak about this election that it was a "referendum on decency." I couldn't agree more. The 2016 campaign was unlike any other and was extremely nasty. Whatever your feelings are about Donald Trump and if you voted for him or not, Donald Trump is a different guy than Barack Obama.

Barack Obama isn't out there tweeting about a satire/comedy sketch about him. Barack Obama doesn't break diplomatic protocol. Barack Obama is calm, cool, and collected. You can name any problem, the recession, terrorism-he always got up to the podium and told us loud and proud we're America, we won't bend or break, and I got this. He had a great way of being real about the issues while simultaneously saying don't worry, we'll be ok.

Maybe you like Donald Trump's aggressiveness, tweets, and his bombastic ways of calling people out and you didn't like the way Barack Obama handled things. Perfectly okay to have that opinion, I just, for one, disagree.

I'm going to miss Barack Obama on TV speaking softly and carrying a big stick. Having his renditions of we have nothing to fear but fear itself. Letting everyone know that there are bad things in the world, but we're going to handle it like generations before have. So, to the first President that I ever gave my vote to, thank you for all you've done. I'm going to miss ya.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
