My Experience As A Content Creator At Odyssey

Odyssey has taught me never to be afraid to step out of my comfort zone as a writer.

My Experience As A Content Creator At Odyssey
Gina Brennan

I began writing as a Content Creator for Odyssey the summer going into my freshman year at DePaul. When asked to be a part of this amazing team, I felt it was an opportunity I simply could not decline. As a journalism major, I had hoped it would provide me with a platform to begin sharing my pieces and creating a portfolio, which has impacted the development of my writing more than I ever expected. Yet, as I took on this commitment roughly one year ago, I was quite unsure of what exactly was going to be in store for me.

For those who are not aware, working as an Odyssey Content Creator requires you to submit one article per week. As writing is a passion that I love more than anything, even I will admit that, throughout the depths of the most stressful of weeks, it is nearly impossible for me to decide upon a topic to discuss and share with an audience. I have been given the freedom to speak of nearly anything I choose, and with the broadening variety of ideas just waiting to be delved into, I have found it to be a bit overwhelming at times. There is the constant concern of whether or not my opinions will peak a reader's interest, and there is the continuous struggle of feeling the need to appeal to an audience by stepping outside of my comfort zone.

Throughout the effortless hours of work each Content Creator puts in per week, it is safe to say that it is practically unavoidable to be pushed out of said comfort zone – and that has helped me to grow and progress as a writer on endless accounts.

It has been said that if you fail to push yourself in life, then you are likely to fail at achieving success. Regardless of the goal, working at Odyssey has reaffirmed my belief in this idea not only as a writer, but as a student, as an employee, and as a friend. I believe more than I ever have in exercising the ability to strive for greater things, not only on this platform but in my life overall. I will be forever grateful to have been given this opportunity and look forward to creating fresh pieces in the years to come.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
