It's only 40 days, after all.

While Lent began last week, some people, like me, are late to the game and are still looking for something to give up. Here are few things that I considered giving up for this season of Lent:

1. Complaining

Everyone’s lives would benefit from giving up complaining for a couple of days. While it is natural instinct to want to vent your annoyances to others, this is something that people should seriously consider giving up for that forty day time period.

2. Procrastinating

This is something that everyone does. If you even clicked on this article, you procrastinated finding something to give up for Lent (considering the fact that it started last week). Don’t worry, I did too, which is why procrastination would be a perfect thing for both of us to try to stop doing for the next forty days.

3. Social Media

Social media is definitely something that all people could benefit from taking a forty day break from. Whether it is just an end to posting everything you do on Facebook or stopping you from scrolling down to week seventy-two of your ex’s Instagram, a well needed cleanse can help through Lent.

4. Coffee

This would be a hard one for me considering the fact that I am only able to function based on my caffeine consumption for the day. Taking a break from coffee will not only help you become less dependent on it, but it will also help save some money if you find yourself constantly in line at Starbucks like I do.

5. Staying Up Late

If you’re anything like me, your most productive hours are between one and four in the morning. This causes me to stay up until all hours of the night getting my work done, which is probably something that I should probably try to give up for lent. Going to bed earlier would cause my issue of constantly being tired; something that I feel on a daily basis.

6. Waking up Late

This goes hand in hand with the previous one to give up, but waking up earlier is actually better for you and it will help you to form a healthier lifestyle. This will also give you much more waking hours during the day to get the majority of your work done so you do not find yourself having to stay up late throughout the week.

7. Soda

Carbonated drinks are another thing that people seem to live on. These are not good for you, which makes it a perfect thing to give up for a time period of forty days.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
