It's that time of year again: mid-summer. We stand in the middle of July looking back at the starting line in the beginning of June, while also staring down the end of August. This bittersweet time of year brings many feelings to surface. People are sad to feel the end of summer approaching, but also happy to start fall with a new outlook on school and work.
Students especially have a hard time grasping the fact that summer is ending because we had such high expectations for the summer and are now faced with reality once again. We thought coming back home would be a breath of fresh air; back in our own beds, eating home-cooked meals, and seeing our home-friends once again.
This fantasy quickly came to a halt once we unpacked our bags. We are now at that point where we are sick of being home and are itching to get back to our tiny dorm rooms. You know there is something wrong when you start to miss the library.
With this also comes the realization that we may not accomplish all we hoped to in these short four months. We will not have saved enough money to avoid the dining hall every night, and we do not have a rockin' summer bod to show off. We have just gotten back into the routine of being home and working full-time, but soon have to go back to life as a student.

This form of summertime sadness can easily be conquered by a positive outlook. With the sadness that summer is ending, there is also an overwhelming feeling of joy knowing you are that much closer to being back at school once again! Summer may not be all you hoped for and more, but you always have the future to look to.
To conquer those mid-summer blues, it is important to look forward at the two months you have left of summer. Take these next couple of months to do what you planned on doing and keep in mind how excited you were to come home.
Find balance. Don't waste your summer wishing you were still at school but instead do the things your planned on doing. Also continue to count down the days until you are back at school and be excited to start back again.
Positivity goes a long way, especially when you are feeling blue.
