Congrats On Your College Acceptance, Here's What You Should Do Next
Good Call

To all high school seniors,

I’m sure you are all currently freaking out with the realization that first round decisions for schools will be coming out in the next few weeks. Regardless of the decision I’m positive you will be fine. However, as someone who get into their dream college exactly one year ago here are some extremely important things you should do when you receive that acceptance.

1. Call your parents

I received my acceptance from my first choice school while in class. Without skipping a beat I ran out of class to call my mom. With all the stress and anxiety that comes with applying to colleges you can sometimes forget how much your parents have done to get you to this place. And if you think getting in is a big deal for you just wait until your parents find out, I honestly don’t think Ive ever heard my mom scream louder.

2. Check out the admitted students site

I know the last thing you want to do after receiving an acceptance is to do more research on colleges but some universities offer exclusives to admitted students. If you’re someone who is stuck with making a decision this can be extremely helpful. These sites often give a deeper glimpse into student life including in depth dorm room tours and more information on financial aid.

3. Take time to be proud of your accomplishment

You worked extremely hard for your acceptance and you deserve to know that. I spent a good part of my senior year convincing myself that I wouldn't be admitted to my dream school so when I received my acceptance I spent more time in disbelief than pride. Getting into college is a big deal regardless of wether it was a safety or a reach. So take some time to understand you accomplishment and be proud of it, you deserve it!

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.
