Do you ever look at a magazine and the first thing you notice on the cover is a woman who is perfect in every way possible? This is the girl that has flawless skin, perfectly blown out hair, and in the best shape. Society has this image of how a woman should look or how they should act. Even through all of this, women are still supposed to have confidence and be their own person.
How are we supposed to be confident in ourselves or in what we look like when we're always being compared to models or successful, powerful women? Yes, we may dress the same or do the same things, but there are special qualities that make up that girl.
One of the main reasons why I joined my sorority was because of one of our philanthropies. One of our biggest focuses is women's confidence. Growing up I was never really confident in myself or anything I did. I was skin and bones throughout all of life. My junior year of high school, I finally started to fill out and look healthy. People kept telling me that I was anorexic and that they could snap my bones in half like a toothpick. I got so tired of fighting them that I took all of this, but my confidence level hit rock bottom. Once people who really cared about me saw this, they told me how beautiful I was and not to listen to what anything anyone said. They were right.
Just because you don't look like the hottest girl in the room doesn't mean that you aren't beautiful. Maybe you're not the most intellectual person in the room, but that doesn't mean that you aren't smart. Ever heard the song "Try" by Colbie Caillat? If you haven't, I personally recommend that you do.
At the end of the day, it doesn't matter what society expects of us. What matters is what you think of yourself. You are amazing in every single way; don't ever think less. Never lose sight of what you want; the possibilties are endless. Confident is the most beautiful thing that a girl can be. Trends and styles come and go, but confidence will never go out of style.
"You don't have to try so hard
You don't have to give it all away
You just have to get up, get up, get up, get up
You don't have to change a single thing"
