Confidence. Something that everyone desires, whether they are willing to admit it or not. Some, we might say have too much of it, others not enough. We accuse people of taking it from us, or giving it to us. In reality, however, confidence is not something we can find in the things or people of this world. It comes from God.
We all have one, or maybe a few crucial moments that we always look back on that stripped our confidence away. Letting those situations attempt to tell us that we have no reason to be confident. Sometimes a comment made, a mistake, a bad decision, a time where you disappointed someone, anything really, can make room for doubt in our minds when we let it.
Some of us rely too much on other people to boost our confidence level, or even on material things. Working out and looking attractive, being intelligent, having the next best thing before anyone else, getting the most impressive job, being on the number one team and much more. But, all who look to these things can recognize that this runs out. You cannot always have these things to lean on. They are simply inconsistent and ultimately unreliable.
One thing I have learned over the years is that that one person, no matter how much they love you or you love them, cannot always give you the true confidence you need. Sure, they can make you feel good about yourself, but nobody gives authentic confidence but God. He is the one who is always there, knows what you’re going through and specifically what you need and when you need it.
When difficult and intimidating circumstances occur or are coming up ahead, we panic and run to the first thing we think of desperately wanting it to solve our problem. The truth is, no amount of money will give you real confidence, no amount of friends, jobs, cars, compliments etc. if we go about it this way, we are only setting ourselves up to fail, and the people around us that we are holding up to those expectations as well. Ultimately causing more conflict, worry, anxiety, and doubt.
If we were to first go to God, asking for that confidence that we need for whichever situation, we would receive a much more fulfilling and lasting feeling. He created you. So who else could ever understand when and how to distribute that confidence to you?
God’s confidence in us, is something far more rewarding than any other kind.
