First off, let me state that I am very well aware that not everyone is going to agree with this. Secondly, let me continue with: I don’t care. But one thing that I think we can all agree with is that the current presidential election is nothing more than a huge mess. Talking politics almost always causes a discrepancy somewhere along the line because we all have our own views and opinions. No, I will not tell you who I’m going to vote for, but I will express some of my personal opinions. I will be 22 this year, so this will be my second time voting in the presidential election. Therefore, I’ve paid attention to politics in the past, and I know that it's never been this chaotic prior to election day.
Let me tell you a little more about myself. I was raised in South Texas, which most of you probably consider “The Bible Belt.” Well, you are correct. I grew up in a pretty conservative home, where we attended church at least once a week, if not more. I was brought up learning God’s Word, so yes, I am a Christian and I do consider myself a young conservative. Next, let me define conservatism:
Conservative: holding to traditional attitudes and values and cautious about change or innovation, typically in relation to politics or religion.
OK, so that may not explain much, but let me continue: America was founded on three documents: The Declaration of Independence, the Constitution, and The Paris Peace Treaty of 1783. These documents give conclusive proof that America is a Christian nation.
The Declaration of Independence has many references to God throughout the document, but the most famous one is that men are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights.
“We hold these Truths to be self-evident, that all Men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness."
Since this isn't meant to be a history lesson, I'll stop there. You get the point. Where I'm going with this is that I truly believe that we should all be absolutely horrified for our country if she gets what she deserves. In this day and age, girls are glorified for being almost completely naked all over social media platforms. Drugs are encouraged, even to the extent of doctors and users everywhere coming up with excuses to make it acceptable. The hard-working people of America are getting taxed more in order to provide for America's lazy class. Almost every race (besides Caucasians) are able to get grants to help pay for their college tuition. Racism is raging and abortion is completely different than murder (note the sarcasm there). This is not at all how America was meant to be. I get it. People say, "Times have changed." All I have to say to that is, OK, but has the Bible changed? Has the Book that our country was founded on changed? No, it hasn't.
People will argue that statement all day, and that’s fine. You’re entitled to your own opinion, just like I am mine. All I’m saying is that from a Biblical standpoint, one of two things will happen: America will get what she deserves (a president that lies prior to the election in order to win America's votes), or Christians everywhere will hopefully stand up for what they believe in and stop being so intimidated by liberals. (Notice that I won't even waste my time referencing any of the liberal candidates in this article.)
Oh, and there is no such thing as being a liberal Christian. They are exact opposites, so in no way can anyone possibly justify that title.
So that brings me to this: When I'm watching the presidential debates, all I can do is shake my head because of the belligerence, the lies, and the constant bashing of one another in order to make oneself look more superior. Wake up America! Is that really what we want in a leader? Now, if you've watched the debates or have even remotely paid attention to this election and it's happenings, you'll know that I'm referring to one candidate more so than others... but that's besides the point.
Bottom line is, I may be a young republican, a young conservative, and a young Texan, which are titles I hold in pride, but most importantly, I'm a young Christian. I believe that this country has (in the past) been blessed in so many ways because we were founded on God's inherent Word, and for a long time, we did honor God all throughout our country. We don't so much anymore, which is sad, because America will never be great again until we put God first again.
