This past Wednesday, Toronto-based electronic R&B duo Majid Jordan performed in downtown Ft. Lauderdale’s Revolution Live venue and it was personally a night I’ll never forget.
Majid Jordan or Majid Al Maskati and Jordan Ullman, are recording producers who met while attending the University of Toronto and were later signed under Drake’s OVO Sound record label after dropping their debut album Good People in 2013. Soon after being discovered by OVO's record producer Noah "40" Shebib in 2013, they were able to demonstrate their modern dance/R&B fusion sound by co-writing Drake's "Hold On, We're Going Home", a song you're probably already familiar with.
In 2014, A Place Like This, a five-song debut that resulted in pretty much five successful singles in which the fans were left wanting more. Fortunately, the pair continued to deliver with the release of “My Love”, featuring Drake and finally released their much awaited self-titled album Majid Jordan in 2016.
I discovered Majid Jordan sometime at the end of last year only to immediately became a fan and luckily, just in time for their second appearance in Florida during their highly anticipated 2016 North American tour. In fact, my friends and I had initially planned on seeing them perform in Orlando, but after discovering that show had very quickly been sold out, we decided to make the sacrifice to mini road trip to Ft. Lauderdale. With Majid Jordan's current success, we knew that we may not be as lucky to them in such an intimate setting. That also goes to show you how dedicated we were, considering their performance was almost a 5 hour drive on a Wednesday night. But, what's a couple hours of sleep lost and a little gas to a once in a lifetime experience to see one of your favorite bands perform live? Anyway, it was all worth it as we were definitely not disappointed.
After their very entertaining opener with Dj Tj, the fans were warmed up and more than ready to see Majid Jordan's performance. Once arriving on stage, Majid Jordan gave the eager and supportive fans what they needed to hear as they sang along to each and every single song of the entire set. From beginning to end, the atmosphere remained intimate as the Canadian duo's moody and mysterious rhythm resonated throughout Ft. Lauderdale's venue at Revolution Live. With my personal favorites of performing "Her", "A Place Like This", "Something About You", and "Every Step Every Way" (I'm tempted to put down the whole album) and an encore with "Learn From Each Other", I was left in a state of complete euphoria.
