Commuter Parking

Whats up with the commuter parking at Montevallo? If you get to campus between 7:30 and 8:30, parking isn't an issue at all; but if you get to campus after 8:30, you can forget about a parking space behind the library or behind Morgan. You may get lucky if you arrive on campus around lunch, maybe someone decided to leave for lunch or had somewhere to be, but usually there isn't any parking except in overflow, and let's be honest overflow parking is beyond the worse!

To make things worse, they have put cones in front of a lot of the parking spots at once to block them off! Why? We as commuters already have enough trouble finding a parking spot, and they want to block off more parking spots? This semester, I only go to campus two days a week, but in past years, I have arrived on campus at 11:30 for a 12:00 class and could not find parking. Driving around each commuter parking lot for 10, 15, 20 minutes at a time trying to find a decent parking spot. Debating if I should keep trying, or forget it and just go back home.

Have a 9:00 class?

Don't be late for that 9:00am class or you will regret it. Trying to find parking behind the library or Morgan is out of the question. You will only find parking in overflow all the way across campus.

I have an 8:00 am class, I park on campus around 7:30 and remain in that parking spot until 2:00 when my first 3 classes are over, then I move my car over to the library; trying to find parking behind the library before 2:00 is out of the question also; you're also fighting other commuters whose first class is at 2:00 for a parking spot.

Finals Week Parking

Parking during Finals week at the library is out of the question. Everyone including student who live on campus move their vehicles to the library parking lot. Why? You as resident students have more parking than us commuters. You also have a room on campus you can study in. I'm not saying you shouldn't go to the library to study, but walk to the library to study instead of taking up parking spaces for the commuters that drive to campus. The absolute worse thing is driving around and looking for a spot and then seeing a resident parked in a commuter spot!

Fighting for Parking

We as commuters travel back and forth daily, and most resident students park on Sunday night and don't move their car til Friday afternoon/evening. We can't park in the green parking spots (resident parking), so the red should only be for commuters. (With the exception of after 5:00pm of course). I feel for the students that don't have a class early and their first class is at 12 or later and can't find parking. Once I park my car, I'm not moving until I have to.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
