Justice League vs. Suicide Squad is published by DC comics. It is written by Joshua Williamson with art (on this issue) by Jesus Merino.
We start off the issue with Rick Flag and Katana (my favorite Suicide Squad member) discovering the piles of dead bodies Maxwell Lord and the villain posse he just unleashed. Oh and then we cut to an amazing scene of Batman totally dressed to look like Hannibal Lecter. It’s perfect. I don’t think the way Batman and Amanda Waller talk to and treat each other will ever get old. Neither is afraid of the other and it’s just entertaining to read the banter. Yet, despite their dislike for each other, they also understand each other. They know how to negotiate.
The Justice League has been trapped, each member in their own special pod to nullify their abilities. While the rest of the Suicide Squad is cracking jokes at the expense of the trapped heroes, Superman is still trying to reach Killer Frost. Still trying to change her mind. I really like this scene because she’s close, she has the potential to be a hero rather than a puppet sent on suicide missions. He sees the good in her. Because he’s Superman and that’s what he does. This issue is where we really start to understand Maxwell’s endgame, his master plan, the thing he’s been talking about for 2 issues but never actually just saying what it is. Still not much action on their end though. I mean, we see dead people (ha. Signs reference), but we don’t see them in action. We also find out why Amanda Waller wanted the Justice League brought in to begin with (but I won’t spoil it).
Pros: We finally know the full plot! Yay! One of the positives about DC releases their comics so fast is that they can take more issues to develop the plot, but since it doesn’t take as much time to get the issues out, it doesn’t drag on forever. We also get some information on who all these villains are. I can admit, I didn’t know a couple of them, so the background was much appreciated. I mean, it’s hard to keep track of every hero and every villain in every comic.
Cons: All talk and no action. I mean, don’t get me wrong, I like plot development, but we were in 2 areas the whole time. We were either in the jungle temple thing or in Belle Reve (Suicide Squad home base) the whole time. With not a lot of action. That’s really the only con I have. I just wanted to see some more excitement.
OVERALL SCORE: 9 / 10
As with issue 2, we’re still going solid with this series. It’s interesting and it’s definitely worth picking up. So make sure to grab a copy!
Happy reading!
