Everyone is under the impression that you have to dress all fancy for school. Whether you're in high school or college, they say the same thing. Seriously though, you don't need to dress nice every single day.
Sure, it's fun to dress up once in a while. Maybe it's for that cutie across the room who occasionally glances your way or you're just feeling daring that day and want to show off. You shouldn't feel like you have to dress fancy all the time. If you do that, then people will expect you to always dress that way. Dressing comfortably shows an important side of you too, not just the stylish side.
Dressing a certain way doesn't have a huge impact on how you do in class, either. You're there to learn, not worry about how you look or how people think you look. It's not up to them, it's up to you. If you want to be cozy in yogas or the ever-comfy hoodie and sweatpants combo, then go for it! Want to wear heels and pearls? Sure, why not? But don't feel obligated to dress lavishly.
When you're in class, it only matters if you pay attention or participate. The professors aren't going to care what you look like, only how you act in class; they also aren't going to call you out for what you're wearing (unless they're mean - but that goes for students too).
You want to be comfortable while you're out and about. You have to walk all over campus, whether it be your room, class, cafeteria, library, and all the other buildings on or around campus. Being out all day in something uncomfortable is really not a fun thing.
Here's a question that every girl asks: Why can guys dress in sweats and it's considered normal, but when a girl does, it's considered sloppy and lazy? That doesn't make any sense, it's just plain silly! We may never know the answer, but if you want to rock the sweats or a simple tee, then by all means do so!
Wearing what you please is very satisfying. Be comfy, be fancy, be whatever you want! Just don't feel pressured to look good all the time.
So next time you see someone dressing down and comfy, just accept the fact that that's how they want to be and leave them alone. It's not a big deal. What's that saying again? Oh yeah, "don't judge a book by its cover."
