Sleep for college students is often considered a joke nowadays. College students just don't ever seem to find time to get rest. Whether we have too much homework or just have a ton of things in general to do, sleep has become more of a blessing. I don't know about you, but honestly, I'm sick and tired of hearing how little sleep my friends are getting. Guys, it's not cool to brag about how little sleep you are getting. Now, I get that you aren't actually bragging about it, but it's not something that we should be telling everyone just to gain sympathy. I personally get about 8-9 hours of sleep and that has been more than enough. Am I bragging about how much sleep I get? Well, yes, I sort of am but not because I want to gloat about how much sleep I get. It's because that's something that we should all strive for. Adults literally need at least 7-8 hours of sleep. 1 Corinthians 6:19 says "Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own". We have been given these bodies by God, so you must treat your body with respect, and if you are constantly tired and harming your own body, whether that's physically or mentally, then you don't have enough respect for the Lord. Change can begin so easily, all you have to do is start.
One major tip that I wanted to give to you before I right another article on how you can begin getting more sleep is to just be in your bed. Being in your bed at a time where you can start resting your body. You don't have to sleep, but to just begin resting your body is important. Whether you agree with my thinking or not that your health is more important than your schoolwork, is up to you, but that's just my opinion. For me, I intend to at least go to sleep at 11:30 or even before. Thus, when it's 10:30 I will just be in bed. I'll still be on my phone or watching videos but at least I've begun the process of rest. I usually will stop the majority of my work, unless it's simple stuff I can get done on my laptop. Your health is sooooooo much more important than your school work. School work comes and goes but your body is your body and it's around for so much longer. I completely understand the argument that some people just have a lot more work to do compared to others and projects that just take longer than some things that I might do, but I promise, "future you" will thank "past you" for how much care you gave your body. Can you believe that I haven't pulled a single all-nighter in about 4 years?
I beg of you, get more sleep college student.
