10 Thoughts Every College Students Has When Scheduling For Next Semester

Yes, it's that time of the year again. You're problem thinking, "what time"? Well, it's that time of the year that makes every college student question every decision that they have ever made in their life up until this point. It is time to schedule classes for spring semester and I know what you are thinking, exactly what I am thinking in this list of compiled thoughts.

1. Should I change my major?

Because looking at the courses you have to schedule for next semester makes you wonder if the end product is all worth it.

2. Maybe I should take 18 credit hours

We've all said it before, maybe we all have done it before even. But this is something we ask ourselves every time we go to schedule because we either A.) want to graduate on time or B.) we just simply think that we can handle it.

3. Maybe I shouldn't take 18 credit hours

Let's admit it, we all enjoy a little free time and think that this option will give us just this. Well, we are all wrong. In college, there is no downtime.

4. Am I even going to graduate on time?

Playing the back and forth game between choosing 12-18 credit hours each semester can be a tricky one and a long one in the end. Here's to fifth-year seniors!

5. Should I pick up another minor?

No, the answer is always no. And if you've figured out how to do this without putting yourself into overload, well, then you are a wizard.

6. I can handle all 8 am's

Been there, done that. Always, and I mean ALWAYS, a bad decision especially because you know you don't go to bed until 3 AM every night anyway.

7. This won't be so bad

Referring to any and every one of your courses you select and then regretting it when final grades come out.

8. I heard this one was easy, maybe I should take it to boost my GPA

Never rely on what you hear. Every person has different learning strategies and what is easy for you may not be easy for someone else.

9. I'll just put myself on the waitlist

Don't, especially if you are trying to get into a major course. Chances are an upperclassman is taking the course to graduate and no room will be made available.

10. Maybe I'll just drop out

This one always seems rational when we are overwhelmed and lost but at least we are all overwhelmed and lost together.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
