Blood pressure rises and patience thins when you’re in college. The amount of stress you’re under causes a change in attitude. In high school, to get aggravated by something minute is a rare occurrence. However, when you’re in college, things change. You have places to be and things to do. Between classes, homework, studying, work, and all the other responsibilities you have to take care of, it’s hard not to get a little irritated when someone doesn’t follow the unspoken rules of college. Here are five pet peeves that every college student has:

1. Slow walkers.

Picking your own schedule is a huge privilege college provides, and scheduling your classes back to back isn’t a bad idea. In fact, there are many perks do doing so. But nothing is more annoying than getting stuck behind a slow walker on your way from one class to another. Here you are, trying to be a good student, practicing punctuality so your professor doesn’t lock you out for being late, but someone just had to get in your way. You have ten minutes to get from one side of campus to the other. It shouldn’t be a hard task to accomplish, so why does this person have to make it a hard task? MOVE FASTER!

2. Seat takers.

In high school, you have assigned seats. In college, attendance isn’t always mandatory and you can sit wherever your little heart desires. This freedom does NOT mean you can steal someone else’s seat. The first week of school is the week of establishing territory. Once you’ve sat in a certain seat for three consecutive days, that seat is now yours. But, there’s always that one person who decides halfway through the semester that they want your seat. NO! IT’S MINE!

3. Loud walkers.

Dorms are fun. You’re surrounded by your friends 24/7. It’s like a giant slumber party. However, certain individuals fail to remember that just because they have their own private room, doesn’t mean that there isn’t an adjacent room to the left, to the right, just above, and just below their room. So when it’s six o’clock in the morning, and you go stomping around your dorm, the people below you can hear. Just because you signed up for a class at the crack of dawn, doesn’t mean your neighbors have to suffer with you. BE QUIET!

4. Class keepers.

College is extremely challenging. Your brain takes in an insane amount of information daily, so asking questions to avoid confusion is always a good idea. But there is always that certain somebody who just had to ask a question, which requires an elaborate answer, two minutes before class gets out. Now, not only does the rest of the class have to sit through a lecture past the permitted time because of this person, but they also risk being late for their next class. If you’re need an answer to something at the last minute, ask the professor personally. Don’t hold the whole class up simply because you’re confused. BE CONSIDERATE!

5. Study naissances.

Study rooms are awesome. Libraries are great. Computer labs are sweet. These are specific rooms designated for studying and schoolwork. They’re quiet and sometimes secluded. So when you go into one of these rooms, you’re expected to keep to yourself and prepare for your exams. Don’t be that person that walks into the room and causes a ruckus. Don’t distract others from their work. Keep your voice down and avoid interrupting others’ focus. It’s not fair for you to take away someone’s attempt to better themselves. They are putting in effort to get a good grade. STOP! STUDYING IS ALREADY HARD ENOUGH!

So if you find yourself doing any of these things, stop now. Your fellow classmates will thank you, trust me.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
